Recurrent miscarriages and low AMH levels

Hi everyone,

I've recently turned 30 and have experienced 2 miscarriages back to back. I had my first appointment with a fertility consultant last week and found out I have low AMH levels for my age (I think my level is 6 and she counted 7 follicles in each ovary). She said it isn't too concerning now because you only need one egg, but said we are right to be trying young as this could be an issue in the future.

I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light and if I should be worried? My egg quality must be bad if I've had two miscarriages. We have decided to take a break from TTC while we wait for tests (miscarriage bloods and genetic testing)... honestly the thoughts of going through another miscarriage is terrifying 😰 but now I'm worried and thinking maybe we should be trying again straight away. They also mentioned IVF a few times.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation? Or if anyone could tell me if a result of 6 for AMH levels is something to be concerned about at my age?

Thank you so much ❤️

I would say AMH and follicle count are probably more of a focus if you are doing IVF (where the standard model is to get as many eggs as possible to increase your chances of getting good quality embryos).

I know this is easier said than done, but another way of looking at it is two miscarriages back to back means you are able to get pregnant naturally (and quite quickly) & that’s really positive!

If the tests don’t reveal any issues, then I would be inclined to keep trying naturally for another while before you go down the IVF route.

Did you test the tissue of the MC's? Technically, you could have low AHM and have good quality eggs, especially at your age.

After MC's they always say do IVF with PGT testing to ensure the embryos are chromosomally normal. If the embryos are normal and you're still having MC's I would go see a Replacement Immunologist. They are the best and specialise in recurrent miscarriages. They are quite expensive, so I would go until a Fertility Specialist did all their usual tests and didn't find anything.
