AMH results - don't understand it at all

Hi people,

I decided to test my AMH last month with the at home Randox test after a recent miscarriage. It came back as 32.4 which I was super happy with. I'm 28 years old.

I re-tested this week as I've just got my period back and it came back as 21.4?? In a month!!!

I don't understand this as it's dropped so significantly within just 1 month and doesn't seem right. I'm now left super anxious 😔😔😔

Can anyone advise on why this might be?

At home tests aren't always particularly reliable. I'd recommend getting it done at a fertility clinic.

I also did a test with Randox and had strange results! When I took these results to the fertility clinic they said that they wouldn't recognise the Randox results and insisted on their own testing!

I would suggest that you contact the clinic to get a blood test if you're worried about your AMH 🙏

Can I ask what results you had? It's just confused me to high heaven how in the space of 3 weeks, I've had such a drastic change in results!

Of course, my tests showed a low AMH (2.1) which was confirmed by the clinic as 1.6 😣 The Randox test simply pointed me in the right direction 🙏

Im sorry to hear that, what's your age if you don't mind me asking? And is that result in pmol/l?

It is normal for AMH levels to fluctuate. I had a blood test done in a lab and was devastated to be told by my doctor that the level was normal for a woman of 45 (and I was 36 at the time). An ultrasound also showed that I only had about three follicles!
The doctor told me it was pointless trying IVF because “there was nothing to stimulate”
i then tested AMH a couple of months later (again in a lab with a blood test) and it was back to a normal level for someone of my age, and I had more follicles in both ovaries. A différent gynecologist told me that it is normal for these to fluctuate from cycle to cycle.
I was under a lot of stress when I first tested so think the low level was probably down to this.
As others suggest, i would recommend getting tested in a lab and also not get too hung up on numbers. (I am currently about six weeks pregnant after trying to conceive naturally in between IVF cycles so the first doctor was clearly wrong!)

This has really reassured me, thank you. I am so anxious about my fertility. I know I'm fortunate that I'm young still but my OH has decided he isn't ready just yet, so wants to wait a few more years before trying again. I agree and want to enjoy our life just us 2 for a few more years, but I also want to be assured that when we do try again (I'll be early 30's), I'll be okay. It's a horrible feeling

Do you mind me asking what your levels were? Both when they were low and then the second time?

Sorry i can’t remember the numbers and I am abroad at the minute and don’t have access to all my medical documents!
But the document with my results listed the ‘normal’ AMH ranges for different age groups and I remember that the first time I was in the upper age range (43+) and then the second time I would have been in the normal range for someone 36 years old.
I’m glad you feel reassured, it’s so easy to feel down with the infertility rollercoaster..
