Gender selection - abroad

Hello,

I have had to do IVF due to infertility issues. I have two boys and am considering a third but would really love a girl if we try again.

we have 8 embryos frozen and the ideal would be to get them tested and transfer once we know the sex of them.

I know this can’t be done in the UK but does anyone know if you can ship them abroad for testing and transfer? Was thinking Cyprus?

would deeply love any info on this as seems mad to do the cycle again when I’m 38 now and these embryos were made 5 years ago.

Rather than playing God why don’t you just be grateful for the embryos you have and hope one works.

If you’d be lucky enough to have IVF work in the first place and be disappointed at the gender then you don’t deserve the baby at all. Normal parents don’t get to choose.

A UK clinic would not be allowed to export embryos for gender selection I’m afraid.

But I can send them abroad for other testing? So they don’t need to know the reason surely?

If the clinic suspects they are going abroad for testing for gender selection they risk their HFEA licence. It is against the HFEA regs to send embryos for testing or treatments which are not lawful in the UK.

How can they suspect?

If you want to take your embryos to a clinic in Northern Cyprus then that is 100% the first thing the clinic will suspect.
And why else would you go to the risk and expense of sending your embryos outside the UK when standard aneuploidy screening is available here?
You can approach your clinic but be aware that there is a lot of scrutiny and regulation around exporting embryos overseas. They have to get permission from the HFEA (it’s called a special directive) for some countries especially outside the EU.
No judgement from me about your plans but you did ask for info on this!

Well it seems fairly suspicious to me that someone who is fortunate enough to have IVF work twice, and have a relatively substantial number of remaining frozen embryos, would want to test any of those embryos. What reason could there be?

Hi, I am not an expert but here is the list of clinics that officially allow gender selection: https://www.fertilityclinicsabroad.com/clinics/cyprus/ You can also email fertilityclinicsabroad team who are very knowledgeable in IVF and will help you with the information you need. Their service is free. Hope this helps.

Why would they suspect this? When I was doing my IVF round done ladies on a thread I was on shipped their eggs to Cyprus as medicated FET was a lot cheaper there.

Hi @IndigoA wondering if you had any success looking into shipling embryos abroad or the best solution for your plan? Have been looking into similar and going to N Cyprus x lots of luck
