hysteroscopy for adhesions

During my baseline scan for IVF they noted my uterine lining to be thin and found evidence of adhesions (possibly caused after an ERPC for a previous molar pregnancy). Next week I am having a hysteroscopy under general anesthetic where they hope to remove the adhesions and then fit an IUD that I will have in for a couple of months while everything hopefully heals up.

I am just wondering of anyone has had this procedure and what to expect for recovery - both from the anesthetic and any discomfort/pain from the procedure and IUD fitting? I have the day of the procedure off work and the day after but at the preop they said I cannot drive for 48 hours after general anesthetic so work have said to take another day if needed. I assume this will be enough time to recover?

Thank you in advance! I am a bit nervous about the whole thing but I am hoping it will be a quick 'in and out' on the day and a short recovery!

Hi I noticed this is an old post but wondering how your procedure went? I've had several erpc's and now, due to lighter periods, consultant wants me to have a hysteroscopy before any embryo transfer. I am 43 so could also just be my age but my gut feeling is that I have adhesions. Really concerned about how long recovery may take before I can go ahead with the transfer. I'll be 44 by then.

I hope yours went well x

Hi, the procedure and initial recovery was very straight forward. I did take a couple of days off work as I had mine under general anaesthetic but the cramping and spotting after were mild. My period was delayed after the procedure (my cycle ended up being 43 days!) the doctor said this can happen when your body is recovering from an invasive procedure but from what I've heard from others many people get there next cycle as usual.

I had persistently thin lining so when adhesions were found they removed them and then fitted a copper iud. I had this in for 3 months and took oestrogen and progesterone for the 3 cycles to help heal and repair my uterine lining. I had the coil removed in November and on my cycle after I had 3 scans at different points in my cycle to check my lining and the thickest it got to was 5.4mm. But considering prior to this I had never exceeded 4.8mm it has improved. My clinic has given me the go ahead to start IVF, next month so just waiting for my next cycle to start so I can begin down regulation.

You might not need the additional follow up I had (coil and hormone treatment) I guess it depends what they find/what the goal is. I know it's taken a few extra months but I'm glad I had it done as I believe the adhesions and thin lining have negativity impacted my ability to conceive.
