Can anyone give me a rough idea how much it costs for a consultation and then a Clomid prescription and monitoring? A local private clinic has just quoted around £375 for consultation and AMH testing, then £750-£1100 a month for the medication and checks. Is this normal? It seems a lot!!

Hi

I recently had letrozole privately so a break down of costs:

£500 - for a joint consultation with included a scan for me and a sperm analysis for my husbands.

£600 for a Hycosy which came back negative

£200 for inital baseline scan.

Cycle 1:
4 Scans at £200 each (CD2, then every other day from CD10 until i ovulated/took trigger)

£25 letrozole
£50 trigger
£90 - 2 blood tests

Cycle 2:
3 Scans at £200 each ( CD2 and then CD10, CD14)

£25 Letrzole,
£50 Trigger
£350 - Blood tests

Cycle 2 was successful but all in all it worked out for me at £3290.

The only thing i would add is - depends on your personal circumstances how many scans you need. Like my clinic did every other day until they asked me to trigger and they found i reacted to letrozole pretty well so follicle was decent size by day and dominant. However they asked me to track at home with OPK and i still never got a peak. I believe for Clomid, it is still the same - the only difference is Clomid price. Also have you looked at letrozole? If you are not ovulating - i heard letrozole was better and asked for it instead.

Thank you for all this info @Optimistic66 - I’m glad it worked out for you! I definitely thought it was simpler than this. I have been referred on the nhs so waiting to hear what the wait is like before I go down this route. Thanks for sharing

Oh and I will look into letrozole. My GP only
mentioned clomid but I will investigate

You could contact wherever your referral is OP and see how long the waiting list is for treatment with Clomid/Letrozole. In my experience with the NHS they prescribed that pretty quickly but then there was a bit of a wit of moving to IVF. In my area the NHS did not offer any monitoring scans (I actually paid for some myself to understand whether it was working or not). They did one blood test to confirm ovulation on the first cycle and after that basically said I could have 3 cycles at lower dose, if it didn’t work I could have up to 3 cycles at a higher dose, and then go on IVF waiting list if needed.
Most clinics are thankfully better than my experience but do see where you are on the list and what it’s like in your area to help you make decisions.

That’s really helpful and a good point @LongerthanMrTicklesarms - I won’t qualify for IVF anyway so this hopefully will be quicker. I will definitely wait and see what the NHS says before going down the private route. Save my pennies in case we have to eventually pay for IVF. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have a positive experience though. X

@Mumontherunn I have eventually had a lovely baby via IVF. In your case (assuming you already have a child) it is really worth understanding what issues there are, clomid or letrozole are obviously less invasive than IVF. A quicker fix if the only issue is ovulation. I do know a work colleague had clomid on the NHS for two children.

@LongerthanMrTicklesarms that’s great to hear. You’re right, I am very grateful to also have a lovely DC. Conceived naturally but took a while and I have to be on medication for prolactin issues. So bit complex, but I’m still hopeful I can get to the bottom of this and conceive again. Am taking all the supplements, reflexology, etc. We will get there I’m sure
