Natural Fet - timing the surge

I’ve just had a cycle cancelled because I detected an LH surge at 2pm on Monday - meaning the transfer would fall on a Sunday. The surge wasn’t there when I tested at about 6.30am in the morning.

Im really confused on the timings tbh. My clinic are telling me mixed things - one doctor said test once a day in the morning (I would have therefore missed the surge and had it this morning instead - placing the transfer on Monday). Others say twice a day, but surely if you detect the surge in the afternoon, ovulation is more likely to occur in 2 days - 36 hours later?

Has anyone else had to go through this? What did your clinics say? Gutted really that I have to cancel this month and pay the cancellation fee and scan costs, when if I’d tested once in the morning, it would be going ahead (albeit perhaps on poor timings).

@Floraspony i did a modified natural FET previously which involves using a trigger shot and progesterone (no oestrogen). This allowed my clinic to time my transfer by forcing my ovulation as close as they could to my natural ovulation date (measured by dominant follicle size). Sorry to hear your transfer is called by the way x

Hi @Floraspony I'm sorry you're going through this - testing for the surge on a fully natural FET can be really stressful! Not to mention the expense in your case...

I've done 2 natural FETs. Both times my clinic gave me Clearblue digital ovulation tests (the ones with the smiley face) and those are to be used in the morning. I was also using the dip dye internet cheapo tests that work best in the afternoon. Both times, I got the smiley face on the digital the morning after the peak on the dip dye tests, and FET was 6 days later. So I guess it really depends what tests you're using. The nurses at the clinic were really interested in the fact that I was using both methods and they lined up, but had no idea about the dip dye ones and said they only go with the digital results (and they transfer every day including Sunday so that wasn't an issue).

My understanding is that the most important thing is the timing of the progesterone (if you're having luteal phase support) as that affects the implantation window, which is slightly more flexible with an FET than a medicated transfer. I started progesterone the day after the digital test showed positive ovulation.

I hope that helps in some way. Very best of luck!
