Hi, has anyone undergone a HyCosy test? Would you be willing to share your experience? Thank you

I had one recently and I was so nervous after reading the horror stories. It really wasn't that bad and felt like period pains for a couple of minutes. I took ibuprofen an hour before too. I hope yours goes well x

I had one last year and felt very nervous. It feels similar to a smear test in terms of set-up - putting in the speculum. That was the most uncomfortable part for me. The actual test felt quite cold - but painless - for me, and lasted around 30 seconds. There was a very mild cramp when it began. I had a doctor doing the test and a nurse walking me through it step by step.

Afterwards, you will probably leak out the fluid they run through your tubes. Mine was a lovely shade of blue - so remember a pad!

I had mine in the morning, and by the evening I was suffering from some period like cramps. A hot water bottle and an early night helped.

My tubes were clear, but I heard it can be painful if you have blocked tubes, which makes sense.

good luck!

Hi Ladies, I have had mine too. The most uncomfortable part was when they were inserting the speculum. Apart from that didn't really feel any pain and the doctor and nurse were lovely. It probably took 15 mins. It is not as bad as what I imagined at all xx

Hi @Penny4488 do you mind me asking how long you had to wait on the NHS? I'm down to 1 tube after an ectopic in September 2022 and thinking about paying privately, however it's £500 just for the hycosy so I'm wondering if it'd be worth sering if I should get a gp referral or pay for the hycosy as its cheaper than ivf would be anyway.

Hi, I spoke to my GP and was then referred to a fertility clinic. I had an initial appointment with them and next step was the hycosy. I had to give urine sample for a chlamydia test before the test can be booked. As it was negative, I then called them on the first day of my period so they could book the test for me. I would definitely recommend speaking to your GP as the wait for me wasn't that long and also looked at private but as you say it's a bit pricey. Good luck 😊
