Ovarian torsion after fresh transfer

Hello I'm looking for a bit of a handhold. Currently sitting in a very busy A&E department with an exhausted wife in excruciating abdominal pain.

She had a fresh embryo transferred at lunchtime today and around 5pm started experiencing severe pain in the area of her left ovary. She had vomited and is really struggling with it. We called the clinic emergency number who initially didn't seem concerned as said OHSS was unlikely to come on so suddenly but then another consultant called back and advised A&E in case of ovarian torsion (?!)

Does anyone have any experience of this? And if she does have something of this sort does our little bean stand any chance at all of sticking. Obviously DW is number 1 priority and very little else matters but Google is not my friend right now.

We're looking at another 5 hours at least to see a doctor and I'm crawling the walls...

I'm so sorry @Shesgettingmarriedinthemornin what a scary night. How are things now? No experience of this but here for a handhold 💗

Thank you! Just made it to gynae ward after 12 hours in A&E. she's got a bed now so trying to snatch some sleep.

They think it's more likely to be moderate OHSS than torsion but still not great.

Sorry to hear you had such a scare! Hopefully your wife is on the mend and the fresh transfer isn't compromised. I have a friend who was hospitalised with OHSS after transfer, and that embryo is almost 3 years old now!

That's lovely to hear! Last night was strange as I'd mentally stopped thinking about the embryo as just wanted DW to be ok.

I'm slightly baffled as to how the clinic missed this before transfer but I suppose the procedure worsened the situation? Hopefully know more soon. Either way I'm hoping we've avoided surgery.

Thanks for all the handholds

Hello, wanted to check in and see how your wife was doing?

Shesgettingmarriedinthemornin · 12/05/2024 20:32

Ah thanks for checking in. Things are better. It was definitely OHSS not torsion which is a much less scary prospect and DW has been closely monitored by both the hospital and clinic all week. She's still huge from bloating and uncomfortable but the pain is mostly gone and she's mostly back to herself.

We are 7dp5dt tomorrow and totally unsure whether a BFP is even a possibility. She has some symptoms including sore boobs and cramps on day 4 but assume these could be the progesterone?

Ah really glad to hear she’s doing ok.

They could be progresterone, yes. I’m on the exact same timing and similar re cramps earlier in the week and sore boobs. But I feel like I don’t feel different enough to pregnant. Who knows! I’m officially supposed to test on Friday. What about your wife?

Shesgettingmarriedinthemornin · 13/05/2024 11:11

Saturday at the clinic for bloods but think we will test Friday so we're prepared for it.

I alternate between positivity and then trying to manage my own expectations. Just trying to think of some good things for if she isn't pregnant. Being able to go down the rapids when we go to center Parcs next month for one thing..! It's the small things I guess
