For anyone who was able to get funding for IVF on the NHS, how long did it take between application for funding to starting treatment?

(We’re in Sussex)

Hello.
We are under NHS East Riding of Yorkshire. After we handed all the paperwork, they notified us about a month later with appointment for blood and scan. I started my IVF 3 month later. The longest for paperwork was waiting for your own GP to confirm you are going to be loving parent to your baby - mine took a week to get back.
My IVF was delay the first time as my scan show quite a few problem that needed to be sorted before I could go ahead.
Hope this help and wishing you all the luck with baby dust.

Thanks @SunnyTiger for the info. I haven’t heard the part about the GP confirmation before, that’s good to know. I had 3 month timeline in my head, so really hoping can start in August if application is in May

Hi, we are NHS south west and it took us 6 months from when we initially filled out the paperwork for the NHS GP appointment until we were contacted by our chosen fertility clinic.

However, I needed extra blood work taken for low iron so I think that held up our process with the GP because my surgery had a 6 week waiting list for blood work 😳 and then my GP lost our fertility paperwork .. so yeah that was annoying at the time!

But it only took 3 weeks from seeing the gynaecologist (NHS), where they filled out all the paperwork and gave us to go ahead for IVF, to being contacted by our chosen clinic! So that part was really fast!

hopefully you’re have better luck with the process!! 🤞🏼

We’re in a London NHS trust: referred for IVF in November 2023 after initial GP appointment for sub fertility in March 2023. During those 8 months we had various blood tests, semen analysis x2, referral to gynaecologist and a hycosy. We passed eligibility checks in Feb 2024, clinic rang March 2024 to start proceedings and first available appointment was same month. So 1 year from GP referral, including 4 months from Gynaecologist referral. But actually starting a course of treatment now we are with the clinic requires more paperwork, more scans/bloods, injection training, medication being delivered and dependent on my menstrual cycle.

Heyy guys
Me and my OH have been referred to a Gynaecology at Barts Hospital. We have identified that my OH has low sperm mobility with a Create (a private clinic) we couldn't afford the prices so decided to go with NHS.

I have a few questions. Depending on my cycle my BMI would either be 29.8 or 30.1 :( do we get to choose our appointment date or isn, do you think I would have to redo all my tests and my OH test as it has already been? Would they refer us straight to an IVF with ICIS?

Also do they weigh the day of the initial appointment and also before you start the procedure to make sure your BMI is within wait.

Last question for my Londoners does anyone know the wait list time frame as I wasn't aware there was a even a waitlist

If only one of my questions are answered maybe I can relax a little and stop worrying so much

@Rettafun

Hiya I am nhs and my BMI was above, they wouldn't give me a start date until I was below 30 as they said the funding doesn't get approved if you are above. They were quite strict about it. I was able to pop in any time to get weighed though. I would imagine if you get weighed and are slightly above, you'll just have to pop back the next week or so and get weighed again.

@Rettafun

Also we had to have tests in order to be referred by GP in the first place, then we had to get all tests done again when we were top of waiting list. Blood tests have to be in a certain timeframe of treatment so we are getting them done for a third time

@CakePigeon30 thank you for this information. I was thinking this process would be so straightforward but it seems going private is easier than NHS.
