Male fertility

Hi everyone,

We've been on a fertility journey for the past 11 months, and so far, everything looks ok on my end after basic fertility tests. However, my husband's semen analysis showed some improvements initially but took a dip recently. Here are the details:

In January, his count was around 23 million/ml, with slightly low progressive motility at 29% and 1% morphology. He made positive changes like quitting vaping and using Proxeed since January, which helped improve his count to 30 million/ml, with better progressive motility at 45% and morphology at 3% in March.

But, there were round cells in both reports (>2 million), so he consulted a urologist who was optimistic about our chances for natural conception. However, after a repeat semen analysis on April 16th, the results weren't as good—count dropped to 11 million/ml, morphology decreased to 1%, while motility improved to 68%.

During this period, he also had a bout of zoster in March (treated with valaciclovir) and gastritis for 3.5 weeks in March-April (treated with antibiotics- amoxicillin 1000mg twice an day, clarithromycin 500mg twice a day for a week and esomaprazole 20mg for 4 weeks).

Can anyone advise if recent illnesses like zoster and gastritis, along with medications, could be affecting his semen parameters? Any tips on how to improve his parameters would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for your help and support.

Hi, I'm truly sorry that you're experiencing this. Answering your question without seeing all the details is challenging, and in my opinion, your doctor is the best source of information. My doctor also mentioned that any changes to boost fertility should be made three months before trying to conceive. Interestingly, I came across similar recommendations in an article about improving sperm quality before IVF. I hope this helps.
