I should start by saying I have secondary infertility I’ve had 4 transfers, 2 egg collections. Two ending in miscarriage. I have 3 frosties left but before I potentially go ahead and waste more I am hoping the nhs will be able to help in terms of tests and I’d ideally want an hsg ( I know this won’t affect outcome of ivf but would like to know if it possibly blocked tubes are the cause on my infertily. Has anyone been in a similar situation and nhs have helped. I know I am fortunate to have afforded ivf privately in the first place but after spend way over £20,000 I truly have nothing left. we are by no means well off or even comfortable. Just been working as hard as possible and scrambling to get the funds together each time.

i believe a hsg is around £600 private - but from my understanding you won't get anything free on the NHS. Even if you had primary infertility, but had private IVF. This would then disqualify you from any fertility help on the NHS.

secondary infertility sucks. Have you looked at doing something like a Dutch test or hertility?

i haven’t heard of Dutch test so will look into it thankyou. Urgh it really does suck, there are soo many tests out there for different things I just don’t know where to turn and what is most worth paying for. I have an appointment need Wednesday with gp and when booking It explained what it was about so hopeful the fact they asked me to come in means potentially they may help.

Hey, secondary infertility (especially after losses) is so tough. Sending love and hope your way.

I'm in a similar-ish boat, albeit only just starting my ivf journey. I waited over a year for my NHS appointment and was really disappointed. Because I already have a child, they will only give me an AMH blood test and an HSG. If I want any other testing, I'd have to pay privately.

Tests that I'd maybe consider in your shoes are thyroid testing (this one's a definite). Pay for this privately because they will actually advise on whether it's in the optimal range for fertility (rather than general health) and prescribe accordingly. The cost of the prescription is the same as for nhs prescriptions. I'd also suggest a womb receptivity test.

Hope that helps and good luck xx
