Thaw and then rethaw for testing?

Hi has anyone got any experience of thawing an embryo already frozen and then PGTA tested it?
What was the outcome?

I'm not sure what to do! I'm intending/hoping to get some tested from a fresh cycle and can't decide on the one that's already frozen.

Thank you.

@Sofie19 no direct experience of testing but I have decided against our frozen embryos after the Dr advised 10% may not survive the process. If you have over 10 embryos then you balance the risk and think it could be worth it, but I had 7 blastocysts, 1 day 3, I'm 38 with low amh so figured my euploid rate is likely to be lower and what if the one (if there is one) that didn't make it through the process was a euploid. So on that basis, I thought I would give them all a shot with transferring. Onto FET 2 now as the first failed. In hindsight I should have tested when they were fresh but they were frozen before it was discussed as an option

I tested 4 and only 1 came back normal, and even that didn’t work..

Someone advised me to give them all a chance as nature has a way if it’s meant to be..

If you have a lot to begin with then why not… I would advise against just based on the thawing/refreezing process though.

I was in a similar situation previously and was told the thaw and re freeze rate is usually pretty good if the embryo is good quality. In the end we had to discard 5 embryos due to a genetic issue with the sperm donor and start from scratch (I know 😫) and did PGT from a fresh cycle. I have had 2 x MMC and 3 x chemicals and really wanted the piece of mind that PGT gives. You do have to weigh up the risks of not getting any normals. I’m 39 nearly 40 and we got 7 good quality 5 days blasts, 3 euploid and 1 low level mosaic, so feel it was a good decision on our part. I think it all depends on how comfortable you are transferring an embryo that you’re not sure is normal or not. After the trauma of our previous cycles, I just couldn’t transfer another untested embryo. It’s very early days, but we have just had a BFP from one of the euploid transfers. Good luck whatever you decide to do xx

Thanks for your views. It's not an easy decision. I'm doing a new cycle so I think I will get those tested and leave the other. There is a chance that I won't get any normals as I'm not expecting to get much anyway from this cycle so even if I get no normals I'll have something to transfer but assume it's abnormal and gear myself up for another fail/MC but at least I know it will be the last one!
