Lister clinic - consultant recommendations for MFI?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have any recommendations on consultants at the Lister. I am thinking of changing clinics purely because they are able to do IMSI. We have MFI so ideally would like someone with an interest in that area, or knows their stuff!

@CherryBerryBoo
I don't have any recommendations but following as also interested in good clinics for MFI.

I have also heard CRGH and Kings have techniques for MFI as well.

Jonathon Ramsay consults at the Lister now, though I don’t know if he would be your lead consultant for an IVF cycle - you may be paired to a gynaecology consultant too.
My consultant got input from Jonathon Ramsay into our cycle (my husband had DNA fragmentation). There’s also another andrologist there called Tet Yap, who I don’t know about. Maybe call them to see who they recommend you speak to.
For IMSI, it’s the lab skills that you need to be really good and The Lister’s embryology team are amazing.
I had a really good experience and would definitely recommend The Lister.

Do you have any fertility/ gynaecology consultant recommendations for Lister please?

@Englishrose35 if you search on here for Lister consultant recommendations there have been a few threads with different opinions.

I met most of the consultants during my treatment and in my experience they were all excellent. Though your consultant oversees your treatment, you don’t see them personally more than a few times - egg collections and embryo transfers are performed on a rota, whilst scans/medication are reviewed by nurses under the supervision of the rota consultant.

They also review cases and make decisions as a team, and will consult each other on their areas of expertise (e.g. MFI, immunology). So in a sense it doesn’t really matter who you go for, although I think it helps if you have a good relationship with them.

My consultant was Gavin Kemball, who I’d definitely recommend. He’s very clear, communicative and knowledgable. I also saw Jaya Parikh a couple of times and she stood out as super reassuring and empathetic.

Hi @CherryBerryBoo , I agree with the above poster - it doesn’t matter too much which specific consultant at the lister as they do seem to make decisions as a collective. I have experience of Gavin Kemball and Anupa Nandi.

We have severe MFI plus I have a low amh (due to ovarian surgery for a benign cyst). We had an NHS round at Guys (when I was 33) where we had no good quality embryos. I had much better success at the lister - my first round there produced my son and my second round resulted in my daughter. And that is despite low numbers
(first round 10 eggs, 1 blastocyst, second round 4 eggs, 1 blastocysts). I was 34/37 for my egg collections.

Do you know the cause of the MFI? The lister helped us get to the bottom of this and we believe it was due to varicecole - my husband had an embolisation procedure for this (on the NHS) which disappointingly didn’t seem to help with the numbers, but we think may have made a difference to the quality of the sperm.

best of luck with everything xx

Hi @sweetpea2000

We also had high DNA fragmentation and low everything in terms of sperm.

We have seen Mr Ramsay before, he was great. Unfortunately our 2nd DNA fragmentation test before ICSI in 2019 was still high but we proceeded with treatment and we must have got VERY lucky to get our daughter, she was the first embryo of our frozen batch (5 in total).
We have now used the other 4 embryos, 2 fails and 2 CPs.

Great you had a positive experience at Lister. Definitely leaning towards them.

Hey @Blacksheep33

Thanks for your reply.
Incredible results for you!

Yes our cause is due to my husband having a serious heart condition as a baby, he had undescended testes. They couldn't operate until he was 2 years old when he recovered fully from heart surgery. So unfortunately the damage has been there since birth.
We saw Ramsay in 2019 who checked him over, had 2 DNA frags which were both mega high.
I don't know what else we can do really, so I'm thinking it might be worth giving the additional techniques a try.

Great that they appear to work together as a multi-disciplinary team!

Hi @CherryBerryBoo forgot to say that both of our rounds at the lister we used IMSI. Obviously we won’t ever know if that was better for us than ICSI but I agree if there is high fragmentation then perhaps it will help ‘choose’ the best sperm.

I seem to recall that
emmatheembryologist on instagram (who works at the evewell clinic) has done some info pieces on IMSI

Very best of luck x

Hi! We are at Lister and work with Dr. Timothy Bracewell-Milnes. This is our 3rd clinic and the experience with Dr. Tim has been so much better than others (HSFC - private, Barts - NHS). We sent Dr. Tim mountains of files from our previous cycles a few days before our first consultation and it was clear he read everything when we first met with him. He was able to explain the protocols and outcomes better than our other doctors. He presented a plan that was totally different from all others. The one thing that really sets Dr. Tim apart is he gave us his email on that first meeting and has been responsive by email ever since. Whenever I had concerns and emailed him he’d respond as soon as he could. Even when I’d ask him about things I read on Dr. Google he’d respond in kindness. When I had questions after scans at the clinic the nurses were great in finding him to speak to me if if he wasn’t in surgery. We had to cancel stims at one point due to an ovarian cyst and after he spoke to the nurse about cancelling over the phone, he asked to speak to me because he knew I’d probably want to hear it directly from him. That kind of availability to a patient is incredible and so reassuring in a stressful process. In all my past rounds I never had that access to consultants or didn’t even know who they were. As others say, once you’re in a cycle all the doctors work together to determine next steps but, for me, it was always helpful knowing I had access to Dr. Tim.

Dr. Anand Nandi performed the EC, and Dr. Gavin Kemball the embryo transfer. They were both fantastic. I also preferred working with nurses Liv (Shard) and Ericka (Chelsea) for scans. Scan appts at The Shard are much faster with Liv, an hour in and out compared to 1-2 hours at The Shard.

Inyournewdress · 02/04/2024 22:24

I would also recommend Gavin Kemball at the Lister.

Another recommendation for Timothy Bracewell-Milnes at the Lister who we saw for MFI among other issues.

Hi Maggie,

I know that this is an old post, but I'm considering to have a treatment cycle with Dr Tim and would like to hear more about your experience. Just DMed you.

Best,
Daisy

Hello all, I got my immunity tested due to a failed round of implantation for frozen embryo. Just got my immune test results back.

ANA: positive
Anti-RO: positive
NK CD39: 1.05

Would like to hear your experience if you also have immunity problem. This is very new to me, and I was recommended to take blood thinner, aspirin and steroid for next cycle.

Some questions:

  1. Have anyone done immunity treatment alongside natural FET? I’m debating between natural FET or medicated FET.
  1. Any dietary changes/supplements would help with my immune situation?
  1. Any tips in general to prepare myself for the FET with immune treatment?

Thank you!!
