Fertility diet help

Been ttc for 2.5 years (secondary infertility- unexplained like with my first and second which took 5.5 years and 15 months)

I keep seeing things on IG about fertility diets but I don’t want to sign up to these things and pay a fortune when I assume it’s a particular diet that I could find out about for free ?!

Does anyone know what these ‘fertility diets’ involve ? I’m assuming it’s lots of fruit and veg and protein or is there more to it? Can anyone advise ? I just want to try one more thing before looking at ivf

thanks everyone 😊

@ReallyDesperate Hi, it is a bit of minefield and you cannot be sure how much it helps but I'm an advocate for it as you never know and eating healthier can't be bad! Generally its high protein, low refined carbs, minimal/no alcohol...but these are some suggestions:

*Nuts (walnuts, almonds, brazil etc)
*Seeds (sunflower, chia, pumpkin)
*Berries (strawberries, blackberries etc)
*Full fat greek yoghurt (Skyr or Fage are high protein)
*Milk (full fat or semi)
*Greens (spinach, kale, asparagus broccoli)
*Chicken (unbreaded where possible)
*Mackerel (omega 3)
*Salmon (omega 3)
*Eggs (vit D)
*Wholeweat products (bread, pittas rice etc)
*Houmous
*Avocados

That's just some ideas, good luck!

Also porridge is good for protein, chuck in the seeds and you have wholegrain, protein and omega 3 with chia seeds

Thankyou ! I will give these a try as going to give it 3 more months then look at ivf (need to save anyway so have to wait and in that time maybe diet will help )

@ReallyDesperate no problem. I would suggest keeping it up through IVF if you end having to go on that path and see this as 'prep', kind of wish someone had told me that before we started the IVF journey as I do attribute diet to better egg collections after I'd been on the diet for 3 months as our first ever IVF cycle which failed - I thought was leading a healthy diet until I looked into it properly

Hey there! When it comes to anything related to infertility, I always make sure to have a chat with my doctor. Each case is unique, so it's crucial to get personalized advice. This article on proper dieting to boost fertility could be a helpful starting point for anyone looking for general information. Just remember, what works for one person might not work for another. Keep that in mind! Best luck on your journey

I feel as if I’ve focused so much on healthy eating for weight loss the last few months thinking that will help but maybe that isn’t the optimal diet for fertility despite taking supplements if that makes sense. I will take a look at the link thanks so much

Hello! Speaking to gp might be a good shout but for what it’s worth both my gp and private fertility specialist recommended the Mediterranean diet for both my husband and I. We’ve had tests and they all came back really good so we are heading towards unexplained infertility if it doesn’t happen in the next few months. We bought a few cook books or sometimes look up recipes and we’re good to go! It hasn’t worked mind but I really like the food and recipes and it’s a good diet even if you’re not ttc. People in Mediterranean live longer etc so it’s proven to be a good thing! We also ordered some recipe books specifically for fertility. We don’t follow them to the letter because frankly I’m never going to make my own nut milk but if you were really going for it, there lots of really good stuff in there. Here’s a link to one, currently £15 on Amazon so a lot cheaper than going to a dietitian:

There is no evidence that any particular diet will benefit fertility. Just eat a normal well balanced intake and don't deprive yourself or guilt trip yourself for the occasional treat.
