Progesterone after Embryo Transfer

Hi All,

Was just wondering, why is it that some people doing IVF are asked to take both estrogen and progesterone after the egg retrieval, and some, like myself, are only asked take progesterone? Is there a reason?

Also, my clinic did not check the measurements of my endormetrial lining prior to the embryo transfer (not that I was aware of anyway) Is this normal?

I would say it’s not normal to not check the lining measurements, I’ve not heard of that before. I would probably email them and ask why.

Oestrogen + progesterone is pretty standard in ivf, but I didn’t want to take additional oestrogen so I asked for just progesterone. It won’t harm the process if your levels are usually normal, but again, you could ask them why to see what they say.

They will almost certainly have measured your lining, but probably just didn't mention it. My clinic doesn't always tell me the measurement unless I ask, depending on who is doing the scan.

I have only had progesterone after a fresh transfer but had oestrogen and progesterone after a medicated FET. If you down reg for a fresh cycle I suspect you may have oestrogen post transfer as well as your whole cycle is under medical control, but have not done that and am not sure. If you have any queries about your treatment, best to just ask your clinic.

On all 4 of my transfers the lining was measured, this is a pretty major thing so they really should have done this. Maybe they did and as all was ok nothing was mentioned to you.
Might be worth an ask.
Progesterone only is prescribed after a fresh transfer, I was prescribed both after a frozen or at least this is what I was led to believe.
Good luck on your journey x
