Confused by blastocyst stats

I had my first egg collection yesterday, 13 eggs collected and 8 fertilised. I've read that 30-50% of embryos can be expected to make it to blastocyst stage, so I might expect 2-4 blastocysts although obviously I know that's just the average and I could get anything from 0 to 8! But I can't find any stats on what % of blastocysts are good enough quality to transfer or whether that 30-50% stat accounts for that as well. So is it 30-50% of embryos end up good enough to transfer or just 30-50% make it to blastocyst stage in general? And if it's the latter, what % of blastocysts tend to be good enough quality to transfer or to freeze?

Good question 🙈 sorry I don’t exactly know the answer but I would say the grading/quality will depend massively on quality of eggs/sperm so that will be very variable between people? We are very lucky in that all our embryos have had high grades (and high grades generally will survive thawing/freezing process well) however so far none have actually produced a baby! It’s so variable and random and even cycle to cycle in same medication can be different!

For example in terms of my cycle;
1st - 9 fertilised - 2 blastocysts
2nd - 18 fertilised - 8 blastocysts

The stats refer to the blasts good enough for transfer/freezing. The rest will get discarded.
Unfortunately the statistics are just that -numbers. And unfortunately sometimes they don't mean anything.

My first round was very similar to the above sats:
14 follicles collected
8 fertilised
4 made day 3
2 made day 5 blastocysts - one grade 5BB, second slightly less so assume 4BB (I wasn't give then second grading but was told its very similar to to the other)

My second round was far more successful even though all meds remained the same:
8 follicles collected (after the first round I was absolutely gutted with this as expected similar to the above)
All 8 fertilised
All 8 made day 3
5 made day 5 blastocyst

Each round can differ hugely per person so its really difficult to judge the outcome, I done the same as you and googled everything on my first round, took note of every statistic that was out there, all this done was cause me massive stress as I often felt I wasn't matching up.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hello, I think this depends a lot on age.
I am 38 (was 37 during 2 egg collection rounds). We did PGTA testing on four of our 5AA and 6AA blastocysts - two from the first EC and two from the second - and each time only one was viable. So 50% success rate which is normal for my age.
We still have two to test
xx
