Timings of fertility investigations on NHS

So I've been recommended to wait 12 months for Hycosy/ investigations after an ectopic last year by gynae.

How long did it take from referral to tests on NHS for you?

I'm worried about unnecessarily wasting time at my age (38), and wondering whether to just pay for the tests privately. As we already have a DC I know if we need IVF we'll have to pay for it ourselves but I'd rather know sooner than later.

I already have recurrent cysts, one tube due to ectopic, prolactinoma, some scarring near my healthy ovary due to tube rupture. I'm mostly worried about my remaining tube being blocked and my hormones. My local clinic does a £500 package with Hycosy, sperm test, amh, hormones and consultation, and I'm wondering whether to just go for it to put my mind at ease, or at least know (if my tube is blocked) that I need IVF.

At your age I wouldn't be sitting around for a year. What is their reasoning for waiting? Can you get a second opinion?

Because a Hycosy (which was was I requested at the time) is "invasive". I do also already have a dc who took 6 cycles to conceive at 35, and the ectopic was first time at 37. However only one of my ovaries works and my remaining tube is on the opposite side. I've been told that tube will pick up the egg from the other side but I'm not convinced with everything that's going on.

I've also been having bad night sweats the last few months - I've always had them around my period, but now they seem to last beyond the end of my period. So now I'm also worried about my hormones and perimenopause. Cycles are still spot on though. Ovulate day 15, and LP 10/11 days.

I think getting a second opinion would essentially mean paying the £500 and going private. DH thinks we should wait (we gotten pregnant twice before, it'll happen again). But my thinking is if we get to the year and there's a 6 month wait then I'll just go private anyway so i might as well splash out now and save me some stress.

We'd probably wait til the whole yr is up if tube is not blocked before considering IVF so we can say we really tried.

Hi,

I'm sorry to read about your ectopic. I stumbled across your post as I am having a HYCOSY Friday.

It might be different where you are but just something to consider/ask before you pay privately for tests. My partner and I did previously have private tests and then went to NHS for treatment. The NHS wouldn't accept our private tests for so we are having to have them done again (these weren't a HYCOSY). If it helps my NHS wait time has been hardly any time at all. We were referred in October and the HYCOSY is out last test before we get a treatment plan.

@Daydreaming91 that's good to know. We wouldn't get ivf through nhs anyway as we already have a child, I don't know about other treatments though.
