Failed Hysteroscopy

Hello everyone,

I have been TTC for 1 year with no success, I had a Hycosy done late last year which revealed a polyp which could be preventing me from conceiving so I was referred for a Hysteroscopy. I went today and it didn't go as planned - the consultant really struggled to get the Hysteroscope through my cervix, even after a local injection. It was painful and he was trying for a while but eventually stopped as it just wasn't happening. I'm gutted as have been waiting for this appt for over a month and was hoping it would be the end, but clearly not. I'm now worried why it was such a struggle to get it through my cervix - the only thing I can think is I have a tilted uterus and maybe that's why? I'm gutted, but have been told I will need it doing under GA now instead and will be waiting a few months. Anyone have any advice or similar experiences? I feel like there's something wrong with me :(

Hi.
I had a hysteroscopy before to. Put in an IUD and it was horrible. Took them what felt like ages amd I think they really struggled and it really hurt.
I'm sure your cervix is fine honestly. He probs didn't wanna carry on so as not to hurt you x

@Spinkyttc it could be because your cervix is tight, my Hysteroscopy revealed that too and advised an embryo transfer would not have been possible as the tools would not have been able to get access to do it. So they opened up the cervix whilst doing the Hysteroscopy so embryo transfers can be possible moving forward. I was under a general anesthetic though so perhaps this is something they would need to do as you've mentioned it was a local?

Maybe? Did they manage to get the hysteroscope inside your cervix or not? He is now booking me in to have it all done under a general so just waiting for that appt to come through now x

@Spinkyttc the Hysteroscopy was all done fine, suppose because I was under general it made it better for them to complete it, may also explain why I had quite bad period like cramps when I woke up but the painkillers kicked in and sorted that

Oh so you have it done under general to start with? Mine was just outpatients whilst I was awake yesterday so i would imagine when I have it done under GA it will be fine x

@Spinkyttc do you have private healthcare? If so it is sometimes covered under that, alternatively its around 2-2.5k to go private and you could have it done within 2 weeks

I don't even think I can do it now as don't the generally just cover conditions that happen after the policy begins?

@Spinkyttc unfortunately I think it may be a bit late to get cover as it would be a condition diagnosed before cover 😕 I would chase up with your GP and explain the polyp is giving you pain (which it can do, I found I had mid cycle cramps and spotting), they then may escalate the matter

Well it's now in the hands of the hospital, as they will be arranging for the operation. He did say to me I'm one down below cancer urgency as it's for fertility so not much else I can do now but wait. He said it shouldn't be more than 2 months so x

@Spinkyttc did they say if you need to have the hycosy again after the polip removal or how will they check it is all clear?

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean? In regards to the polyps the Hycosy hasn't got anything to do with it, it was more to see if my tubes were clear. I've been told that 6 month post the Hysteroscopy procedure if I haven't conceived to go back and have the Hycosy done again

@Spinkyttc
I had hycosy today and 2 polyps discovered. I was wondering if after I have them removed with hysteroscopy I need to have the hycosy again to confirm that they are gone as one was blocking my tube so the liquid couldn't go through. I'm doing IVf so it all can be quite pricey

Ah I see, I mean I'm not 100% sure tbh, I'm sure when you have them removed that the issue would be resolved but you could always have a repeat Hycosy done. I may have one done just for peace of mind. When I initially had the Hycosy done, although she couldn't get to see if the due in my tubes as the polyps were blocking it, she did say my tubes looked okay from the scan so I'm not sure. That's the original reason I had the Hycosy as I had a previous chlamydia infection in my early 20s so wanted to make sure my tubes were all good, it was only then the polyps were discovered
