Calculating age for FET to transfer 2 embryos

Does it go by my age now (42) so I can transfer 2 ? Or my age when they were frozen (34) so I won’t be allowed to transfer 2?

It goes on the age of when they were created/frozen, so the clinic will base all decisions off your 34 year old embryos. They will probably only transfer one - especially if previous rounds with those embryos have been successful. Good luck!

3 other rounds (all FET due to ohss) failed with embryos from the same batch (2 day 3 transfer and 1 blastocyst transfer) so that was why I was going to ask for both to be transferred this time , it’s been a few years so I wasn’t sure if they would now transfer both due to my age / failures previously

I don’t think there’s any blanket rule, you read on here of very varied approaches between clinics so best to ask your clinic and see what they say. It would help to know if there was any reason for previous failed attempts (if it was a lining issue you might not want to transfer 2 embryos).

Cantworkit · 26/01/2024 00:14

We never got an answer as to why they failed , my lining was Always great, we tried different protocols (natural cycle with hcg trigger x2 , natural cycle without , intralipids ) it just didn’t work. We weren’t going to try anymore but had a change of heart and thought will just use these last 2 but I’d prefer to do a double transfer

@Cantworkit it really comes down to how you approach risks and this is such a personal decision. Worth chatting with your clinic to see what their protocol is and to chat through risks of double transfer. My clinic allows double transfers after 3+ failed transfers and in due my double transfer at 9.45 this morning!

there are significant risks you need to be aware about for both you and embryos, however if 2 do implant 95% of pregnancies have live birth and good outcomes. Definitely speak with your consultant and embryologist to go through these risks with you to make sure you are comfortable xx

Also sorry forgot to mention different clinics have different protocols and it isn’t necessarily based off age. I was 28 for these embryos (now 29). My clinic was really helpful at giving the information to allow us to make the decision based off our own circumstances

@Cantworkit hope the clinic can offer some guidance and ultimately respect your wishes.

@Ellenn I hope all goes well today and beyond

I'm sorry to hear the previous transfers were unsuccessful @Cantworkit but he got everything crossed these last two result in a positive outcome 🤞🏻🤞🏻
The clinic should be onboard with giving you two given your history. I hope they give you some good guidance and like @Ellenn said give you all the information you need to help decide.

@Ellenn good luck for your double transfer today!!!

@Cantworkit definitely have a chat with your consultant. Clinics in the UK will only transfer more than 1 in certain circumstances, but I would have thought yours would make you eligible, from what I've heard. I'll be transferring 2 on Monday. All the best! X
