Adenomyosis

Can I please ask the advice of anyone who has been diagnosed with adenomyosis and wanted to conceive?

Have you received treatment for it? Did it make a difference? Should my clinic be trying to treat it? I’ve heard of ladies having down registration and injections. I’m symptomless.

I have been ‘diagnosed’ via an ultrasound during infertility treatment and was told it was ‘ only a small area’ and my consultant said to ignore it as nothing can be done about it.

I have had miscarriages in the past and now can’t get pregnant. Had a failed fresh transfer ( very early blastocyst) recently.

I feel so lost in this sea of IVF. Obviously, don’t want to just carry on without treatment, if it would be needed for success.

Best wishes! xx

I have suspected adenomyosis and after 3 failed transfers we have decided to change the protocol. I have been put into menopause for 6 weeks and I might continue up to 8 weeks to see if the inflamation goes away. My treatment consists of daily 0.1 diphereline injections and then go on to have a medicated transfer. I've seen two doctors and they both have recommended the same protocol.

I should add that I have the following symptoms: pelvic pain before/during ovulation and menstruation, pain during sex and unbearable pelvic pain during running or exercising. My menstrual flow is not too heavy and my lining is on the thinner side. There is also no sign of endometriosis.

I am not in the UK so I don't have any advice regarding the medical procedures there, but you should absolutely insist on having a proper treatment. While there is no cure for adenomyosis, there are treatments that can help with the inflamation.

I also have Adenomyosis, but it was found during surgery for my stage 4 Endo. My diagnosis was confirmed via biopsy, ultrasound seems less definitive from my understanding.

I haven't had any treatment for it - I didn't think there was one for it? It may be best to speak to the clinic on how sure they are about the diagnosis and what impact it may have had, and how to proceed.

Like @Mistymist , downregulation may be an option?

Hi @Sera9 I was diagnosed with mild Adeno while going through a round of IVF and having five fibroids removed. Was put into medical menopause for 10 weeks before our transfer of our only PGTA normal embryo and it didnt stick. My doc said the treatment should last us a few years while we keep trying . Lupron 11.75 injection and 4 letrazole ever night for 10 weeks was the treatment.

Hi @Sera9 . I have adenomyosis, I had my DS 3.5 years ago , conceived quickly but did have 3 miscarriages prior to him - all quickly .

I recently had surgery for Endo and Ashermans (scaring from placenta being left in). My surgeon told me I can stater TTC after my next period and in my case it's the best time for surgery after my other problems have been removed for now.

He didn't think the andeo would cause problems TTC , I mentioned about the 3 previous miscarriages and he said they were likey chromosomes - I know 1 100% was but not convinced on the other 2. when I feel pregnant with my DS I started taking progesterone so if I'm lucky enough to fall pregnant again , I will ask for this.

Hi Bellaballs
Thank you for your reply! May I ask how you knew about the retained placenta? Was it something that was diagnosed straight after birth or only after an ultrasound? I’m wondering how long after a birth this can last for without diagnosis. I’ve had ultrasounds for fertility - didn’t find anything except the suspected adenomyosis. I’ve not had any tests involving cameras and wonder if those types of tests are worth doing.
They also said to me that my previous miscarriages ( many years ago) and my failed ivf transfer were most likely genetic. Something niggles at me though- how can every embryo for years have been genetically abnormal? That’s why I’m thinking implantation may be an issue too. Not had a positive pregnancy test for 11 years.

Hi praying4babba
Thank you for sharing. May I ask, how can they tell if the 10 weeks of menopause treatment has worked to calm or regress the Adeno? Do they repeat MRI or do biopsy?
I’ve been offered ERA, EMMA and ALICE biopsy tests ( not because of the adenomyosis - they seem to be ignoring that!). I wondered if they do a biopsy to check receptivity after or before deciding to do the treatment you had.

Hi @Sera9
So they did a scan to check. After my fibroids removal they noticed what the called Venetian Blinds in my wall. After recovery it was still present so they put me on medical Menopause. Maybe yours is not bad enough for treatment?

Adeno does not prevent pregnancy it just has a high risk of miscarrying .
Def ask about the Medical Meno. I took Lupron 11.75 and Letrezole for 10 weeks every evening .
