Natural conception with one tube and low AMH - anyone?!

Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with hydrosalpinx on my left fallopian tube so need to have this removed. I also have a low AMH level of 4.7.
We already have a 4 year old and I miscarried at 11 weeks in July 2022.
Basically, has anyone else conceived naturally with only one tube and a low AMH? I'm so scared that our only option will be IVF and I'm not sure if I want to go down that route.

I did, with an AMH if 2.2 and only one tube due to Hydrosalpinx and endometriosis, I had actually gone done the IVF route several times prior to this too

@Lauren83 thanks for the reply. That's fantastic to hear. I've read so many stories of people needing IVF that I keep thinking that would be our only option. If we didn't already have a son it would be a different story, I'm just not sure if I can put myself through it, not to mention the expense of the treatment. Positive stories give me hope!

@Journeytonumbertwo it is possible however if IVF is an option for you then don't leave it too long, with an AMH of 4.7 you'd be better to start sooner rather than later. I didn't want to do IVF either hoped I would get pregnant naturally (tried for 3 years) and by the time I accepted I did need IVF my AMH was so low that IVF was very difficult and I needed many rounds for it to work

@Megatruck2 that's exactly what my consultant said, time isn't on my side. I'm having to go private for the tube removal as the NHS waiting list is over 8 months so once this is done we'll know more. We've not fully ruled IVF out, it's just the cost of it, especially if it's not successful. Glad to hear IVF worked for you 😊

I also agree I would be careful not to leave it too long, most clinics have an AMH cut off unless you are looking at natural IVF, did you have an FSH done too?

Journeytonumbertwo · 05/12/2023 17:38

@Lauren83 I had one done in April and it was 6.3 iu/L but I'm not really sure what that one means.

It can depend what cycle day it was taken, when your AMH gets lower your FSH can get higher as your body is starting to struggle with its egg reserve, IVF meds are FSH so if you are kicking a lot out naturally it can be quite difficult to get a good response to meds, low AMH often needs a higher dose of stims which doesn't work with already high FSH, this is often when people look to natural/mild IVF but success rates are lower, have you had an AFC done?

Journeytonumbertwo · 06/12/2023 08:49

@Lauren83 Yes, I had an AFC with a result of 4. I've not idea if that's good or bad but I'm assuming it's on the lower side. I'm seeing the consultant about the laparoscopy next Wednesday so will hopefully know when I can have the procedure done. If its a while away, we might consider freezing eggs just to be on the safe side.

My other consultant mentioned taking DHEA. Have you ever looked into this?

It is on the low side yes but it's in line with your AMH, it's your potential for egg production so you should generally expect to get up to 4 eggs, if you do look to freeze before a lap I would consider freezing embryos rather than eggs

Thanks @Lauren83, thats really helpful and definitely reassures me a bit. I'm just terrified that they'll discover both tubes are affected once they operate, even though they've only seen it on one side on the scan. I think I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worst!
