Hycosy / HSG success stories?

Hi all, I’m hoping to have my Hycosy this month and would love to hear success stories as I’ve heard it can give your fertility a ‘boost’ by clearing out your tubes. I’m 30, been ttc baby number 1 for a year now and never had a bfp. I’ve had baseline bloods and an ultrasound scan before and all good and all signs show I’m ovulating, and DH’s SA was also all normal. Am really hoping the procedure won’t be too unpleasant and that this will do the trick 🤞🤞🤞

@dormicumema I know what you mean, it’s nice to have a plan and something to work towards! How many months of Letrozole do you think you will try before ivf? My doctor said you can do up to 6 cycles but given the cost I think we will probably start with 3 but who knows, guess it depends how successful it is! Hopefully 2024 will be our year 🤞

@hopingforapeainapod sorry i didnt answer,i was away for a couple of days.
Basically, dr said 2 to 3 cycles and if it doesnt work it would be time for ivf
Which cd are you right now? Have you started letrozole?
I am supposed to start today evening and am a bit scared of possible side effects

hopingforapeainapod · 03/01/2024 11:23

@dormicumema I am CD14 so about to start the dreaded TWW! I haven’t been tracking OPKs or BBT as wanted to give myself a break this month but have had other ovulation signs so fingers crossed 🤞 if af comes I’m going to try Letrozole next cycle (so around the 20th or January). I know what you mean about side effects - if it helps I’ve heard Letrozole has far fewer side effects than Clomid and if you do get any (eg headache etc) they stop as soon as you stop taking the tablets. Best of luck, let me know how you get on!

How you getting on @dormicumema ? Also are you going to take progesterone after the letrozole?

@hopingforapeainapod hey, how are you getting on? I am cd 9/10, feeling ok. Tomorrow I'll go for an ultrasound to see if there are follicles developing. I do have some spotting that started on Monday, after my period ended which I read can be due to letrozole reducing estrogen so hoping thats all. Nothing major...dr didnt say anything about progesterone, I tested twice and it was always at good level so dont know...im a bit anxious honestly because although im technically doing something it basically doesnt change much since i already ovulate. The only good thing i read was something about enhancing egg quality.
Wish we had some answers

hopingforapeainapod · 10/01/2024 13:45

@dormicumema glad you are feeling okay and best of luck for the ultrasound tomorrow 🤞can I ask are you paying for this privately? My clinic charge £750 a month for Letrozole (!!!) to cover the medication, scans and progesterone tests - it’s so much money and my DH is struggling to get on board with spending that amount when all signs suggest I am already ovulating 🤷‍♀️ I agree - I really wish someone would just tell me what’s wrong and what to do!

@hopingforapeainapod is nothing covered by your insurance? To be honest, im from Croatia and here we have quite good public health care (it is automatically taken from your monthly salary) if you pay for additional insurance (around 20Euro a month) most of the medications are pretty cheap. So, for me, insurance covers 3 medicated IUIs, 3 ivf cycles. Letrozole only is not included here, bit ultrasounds are free and the drug itself costed me around 30 euros, and most of the tests are free or cheaper when going through insurance.
I know cd 3 bloods costed around 90euros, progesterone costed around 10.

@dormicumema wow that is so much better than our system! So I don’t qualify for anything on the NHS in the UK as I’m ‘unexplained’ and therefore need to try naturally for 2 years first. I do actually get private health insurance through work but it doesn’t cover fertility treatment or investigations!! I’m a teacher so the insurance is subsided but therefore a bit limited. So would need to fund everything ourselves. I am in a very fortunate position that we have some savings and my parents may be able to help as well, but if we end up needing IVF it’s going to be very expensive so want to hold back the money for that really…

@hopingforapeainapod went for the ultrasound today, i have one follicle measuring 13,5mm (i actually had ultrasound couple of months ago the same cycle day and it measured THE SAME) so feeling a bit disappointed. Also my endometrium was 5mm (whereas on cd 11 couple months ako it Was 6.7mm which was normal). Im guessing endometrium is a bit thin due to lower estrogen (i had little bleed after period as well). Doctor wasnt worried about anything he only said i 'responded normally' and to start DTD.
Also, because of my age and no obvious problems, he recommended letrozole every other month (something about giving body time off medicine to recover) for 3 cycles. Meaning, to try until July on our own and if it doesnt work (although he has higher hopes than me haha) we will do IVF.
I asked about IUI and he isnt convinced about it because of open tubes.
We plan to do sperm dna fragmentation and I was thinking about repeating hormone levels next month including amh (it was 20.86 pmol/L which for 28y/o seems a bit lower to me).
If there will be something wrong with tests i plan to move on for ivf sooner.
Is there possibility you do letrozole, see how you react and maybe give a couple cycles on your own without all the follicle counts and progesterone? My dr said you usually react pretty much the same every cycle

hopingforapeainapod · 15/01/2024 19:01

@dormicumema sorry for the slow reply, been back at school and drowning in marking! How big do they need the follicle to be to confirm ovulation? Do you think you have ovulated this month then? That’s annoying about your lining being a bit thin (I’ve heard that’s why you can only do 6 rounds of Letrozole max. My lining has always been a bit on the thin side which apparently is also quite common if you have been on the pill for a very long time which I had - wish someone had told me!) We did a sperm dna fragmentation test recently and that also came back normal. I’ve got an appointment with another doctor on Monday as I wanted to get a second opinion before committing lots of money to anything - I’ve heard really good things about her so I’m hoping the appointment will lift my spirits because I’ve been quite down about everything this past week or so (bloody January, plus another pregnancy announcement last week!) 🤞🤞🤞

@hopingforapeainapod pregnancy announcments are the worst arent they, you are at the same time happy/jealous/sad/worried. So confusing. Keep me updated about her oppinion! Maybe its taking you a bit longer because the lining has to come to terms of no pill situation.
As for follicle, i think around 18 to 22mm. I am getting positive opk today, so cd 16 and I usually ovulate cd 16-18 so we will see . Defo taking a break next month because of the lining situation

hopingforapeainapod · 23/01/2024 16:05

@dormicumema sorry for the slow reply have been so busy at work! How did you get on in terms of ovulating this month? I hadn’t realised Letrozole affected your lining like that or that you could / should take a break between months. I saw a different doctor yesterday and we have decided to do a monitored cycle so will go back on CD11 for a scan, and when my follicle looks ready they will give me a HCG trigger to help me ovulate at the right time and then I will supplement with progesterone which will hopefully help my spotting 🤞 if that doesn’t work then will try the same thing but with Letrozole. I feel a bit better now we have a bit of a plan at least!

dormicumema · 28/01/2024 11:51

@hopingforapeainapod how are you getting on? Which CD are you? This definitely sounds better than just blindly taking ovulation drugs!
I had a bfn this morning so im out unfortunatelly. I am going to seek for a 2nd opinion privately bc of that bleeding after letrozole and to see if there is anything else we could try.

hopingforapeainapod · 03/02/2024 13:01

@dormicumema I’m CD16 - had my trigger shot on Thursday evening (so CD14) so should have ovulated last night / this morning! 🤞I’m really sorry about your bfn, and I hope you get some answers about the bleeding - I haven’t heard about that with Letrozole before but I suppose everyone is different!

Hi @hopingforapeainapod did you receive your BFP within 3 months of Hycosy? 🙏🏽

ttcbby01 · 12/09/2025 13:55

@hopingforapeainapod @dormicumema Hi Ladies - read through your chat. I wondered if any of you had any success?? Praying you did! I go for pelvic USS next week and then its on to hycosy/HSG.

hopingforapeainapod · 16/09/2025 21:04

@TTCRainbowBubs @ttcbby01 hello! Yes we conceived my first round of a monitored cycle with progesterone! So fell pregnant in February 2024 and had a baby boy in October :) had my Hycosy in December so I think that plus the extra progesterone made all the difference. I don’t know your circumstances but would highly recommend Dr Lynne Chapman if you are struggling with unexplained infertility.
