Hello everyone. Me and DH have done all the testing but the HSG. I'm awaiting for fertility specialist appointment (in 3 weeks). I ovulate, there s nothing unusual on transvaginal ultrasound, DHs sperm is good.
I just wondered for those who were in similar position, how long did you end up waiting for your baby and did they discover anything on HSG/further tests?
If it is 'unexplained' infertility, did you prosper after HSG? Did you go for IUI first?
Thanks in advance

Hi there - afraid I can’t be much help but just wanted to say am following with interest as I am in a very similar boat: DH and I have been trying for one year, all scans and blood tests so far look normal, everything shows I’m ovulating and sperm analysis all fine. I’m going to take a bit of a break in November as I feel quite psychologically drained from it all and then book in a HSG/HyCosy for December and see whether that gives us any answers. Doctor has basically said it’s then just a waiting game until we feel ready to try for IVF, and hasn’t even suggested IUI although not really sure why - I think I have read that success rates are pretty low? I’ve read that HSGs can give you a bit of a fertility ‘boost’ as they can flush out any debris in your tubes so here’s hoping 🤞😬

Hi, I was just looking for threads about unexplained Infertility and came across yours. I was just hoping to hear some kind of update as I would love to hear a happy ending to your story.

I'm 22 months in and all tests are clear but had an unsuccessful HSG and am awaiting a laparoscopy.

I really hope you are in a good place.

dormicumema · 06/08/2024 04:38

Hello @WindwardGrizz.
I am so sorry for your HSG experience, but if it is something to be fixed via laparoscopy and give you more answers, maybe it is not so bad because you will have some answers and solutions for the problem. Fingers crossed for you.
Unfortunately no happy ending. HSG showed no problems with the tubes so still unexplained. We tried letrozol for 3 months with no success and currently waiting for cycle to start to offically start with the ivf process (baseline scan will be at the end of August and then with the next period we will start the injections).
Sorry for not much helpful info

Hey, I'm sorry you haven't had a successful time with letrozol but I'm really glad to hear that you are getting support medically and haven't been left to 'let nature take it's course', that's my biggest fear! So it is reassuring to know that. I wish you the best of luck with all stages of IVF x

Hi all, just wanted to message as I’m in the same boat too. Ttc since March/April 2023, unexplained infertility so far… PCO (but not PCOS) is the only thing they’ve found but the consultant didn’t think it was a problem. Just means my AMH is high!

About to start Letrozole next month, but not feeling hopeful…

@dormicumema wishing you all the best for ivf

@WindwardGrizz sorry to hear you’re in the same boat with being “unexplained”… what will they be looking for in the laporoscopy? There are so many procedures I’m finding it hard to follow, and different clinics seem to have their own preferred ones too…

dormicumema · 06/08/2024 19:04

@WindwardGrizz well, I booked ivf with a private clinic because there would be some waiting time with public health insurance, but yes you are right, no one ignored me, i was lucky on that part.
Hope you get some answers and if tubes are blocked then you must get a referal for ivf as well! Do they suspect something like endometriosis?

dormicumema · 06/08/2024 19:07

@Blueskycat perhaps the letrozole will work, did they maybe suggest iui with it? It does have more success rates, I am a bit sad because they didnt offer it for me when giving it a go!

OP posts:
WindwardGrizz · 06/08/2024 21:12

@dormicumema Yeah, I've been diagnosed with endometriosis but it was only found on my ovary so now they want to see if it's in the tubes too :-/

I'm glad you had the option to go private and get things moving. Every month that passes just is so hard.

WindwardGrizz · 06/08/2024 21:15

@Blueskycat I was diagnosed with endometriosis a few years ago but the endometrioma shrunk into insignificance on my ovary. Now they want to see if it's in any of my tubes 😬There are so many procedures and acronyms - I spend most of my time on Google!!

Blueskycat · 07/08/2024 08:17

@dormicumema They suggested 3 months letrozole without IUI, and if that isn’t successful then do 3 months with IUI. I’m not sure what the reasoning is but we are paying privately so I’m happy to try without first… IUI is much more expensive than just letrozole with monitoring scans.

Also I’m not sure if IUI impacts eligibility for NHS IVF- I know it varies by area so will look into that before we have any IUI cycles. We are waiting for our first NHS fertility appointment, GP referred us at the end of June but no appt date yet…

@WindwardGrizz really hope it’s good news on your tubes too 🙏🏽 I don’t know anything about endo but sounds positive that it has shrunk on your ovary

Angelselevenx · 07/08/2024 18:58

@dormicumema feel like I'm reading my own story. Currently on cycle 19! ☹️

dormicumema · 07/08/2024 19:05

@Blueskycat really hope you can get any necessary treatments through nhs, in my country the cost, compared to the us or uk, is not that high so we didnt want to wait any longer... but i heard lots of people had success with letrozole or letrozole + iui so fingers crossed for you.
@Angelselevenx so sorry you are also going through this. It is so hard not knowing why. But on the other hand, if all the major things are normal (amh/ egg count, uterus shape/lining, sperm) it gives us hope for something to work. So many stories on unexplained infertility that got pregnant this way or the other... really hoping we have our 2025 babieeees

Angelselevenx · 07/08/2024 19:20

@dormicumema it really is, when everything comes back normal especially! I'm on round 6 of letrozole and my fertility consultant has given me metformin as well, I have polycystic ovaries but not PCOS so I just have lots of follicles and no symptoms of PCOS, ovulate regularly etc. We qualify in January for IVF. Have you submitted your funding?

dormicumema · 07/08/2024 20:17

@Angelselevenx good plan then, good luck!
Nope, went privately because we would have to wait months and months for funding cycle. If our private round fails or in the future maybe we would try to use insurance but for now no.
