Protein powder for IVF

My nurse advised me to have more protein. Being a vegetarian, I am struggling to keep up with my protein intake.

Did anyone take protein powder during IVF ? Did they help ? What brand would you recommend ?

Hi, I am also veggie.
I ate protein yoghurts and the protein milkshakes you can buy in order to top up my protein on days where I was low. I also ate nuts and meat subs.
I know some people do use protein powder but I preferred the products. I have had two failed rounds but didn't develop OHSS on either.

Hi I'm making smoothies with the organic protein co pure unflavoured (not isolate) powder. Two scoops in the morning during Stims

I like the organic protein powder company. I use their vanilla one. It's made from organic milk and not full of unpronounceable ingredients.

I'm also doing high protein . Hopefully it can help make plump eggs.
I'm not 100% vegetarian but I do limit my meat consumption to once a week which is hard because one chicken breast fillet for example contains nearly half my daily protein about 30grams.
Get plenty of green peas, greek yogurt , nuts and seeds ( one almond has 0.3g for reference) and even dark chocolate has protein. Just don't eat the whole bar obviously.
Do you eat eggs ? One egg contains about 6grams of protein.

As for shakes , I do top my protein up with shakes. This month I have switched to more healthier options like Purition ( works out about £2 a sachet) but contains added fibre and seeds ect.
Also organic protein powder company is another. I think its just the powder, a little coconut sugar and vanilla .

There's lots of protein shake options out there but just beware of the sugar content as alot are quite high in sugar and have lots of crap added to them. I must admit occasionally if I'm busy and on the go I do grab a ready made shake from the supermarket. I'd usually pick up the ufit shakes or the fuel breakfast shakes ( 5 for £5 in asda) think it has added oats and fibre and some vitamins. Not the best but if I'm not at home or in a rush I have to make do.
The tastier they are obviously the less healthier they are. I used to drink the my protein shakes as I just loved all the flavours but for this month for my collection I'm trying to make my protein as clean as possible . At the end of the day tho everything in moderation and along as I'm eating healthy around it and getting plenty of veg ect I don't think it's that bad to have the odd tasty shake

Incase your not aware, to calculate your individual protein needs
Take your body weight in pounds and divide it by two.

I'm a veggie and like to eat high protein. I've made a few discoveries over time to add to your list:

  • Skyr yogurt
  • low fat mozzarella
  • nutritional yeast (can buy at Holland & Barret. I add it to anything it'll go on and it's very high in protein and tastes like cheese)
  • peanut butter
  • cottage cheese
