Hi all,

Just need some advise and looking for other previous experiences.

Bit of my background, 36y old with stage 4 endometriosis. I've had two surgeries this year. My AMH 5.7 after my surgeries, was 17.8 prior to my surgeries. But I had to have the surgeries done due to a large ovarian

During my first cycle in August, I was placed on maximum doses of medications and 4 eggs were collected. On the the day, my partners sperm count was lower than norm so they switched from IVF to ICSI. Unfortunately no eggs were fertilised.

Going in for round two this time - starting in 16 days.. And the plan this time round is to ICSI with calcium ionophore.

Just looking to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation? And how did it go? Any advice

Thanks 💕

I know this is a really old thread but just wondering how you got on? We had a completed failed fertilisation with 19 mature eggs all with ICSI to our complete shock, especially considering my age (28) and using donor sperm as we are a same sex couple. Anyone else had total fertilisation failure and then had success afterwards? We are going to change the donor, change the medication, and use calcium ionophore too so 🤞

Hi!

Thanks for the message.

I'm so sorry to hear about everything you've gone through. I hope my story can shed some light and hope.

So during my first round of IVF we had ICSI on the day due to a low sperm count that day. - I had 4 eggs collected, and none fertilised. This was heart breaking, but we didn't give up and tried for a second round.

During my second round of ICSI - we had oocyte assisted calcium activation. I had 12 follicles, 8 eggs, and 5 that fertilised. Unfortunately the fresh transfer failed. But my frozen transfer was successful. Now im currently 34 weeks pregnant.

I know it's easy to say, but keep persisting and don't give up. I can't say we change much between the cycles in our personal lives apart from managing my stress levels a bit better.

But the calcium activation did work for us, and read fair bit about journal articles and success rates.

I hope this helps and really wish you both the best. It's an emotional rollercoaster but all worth it in the end 💕

Wow that's amazing! Congratulations 🥳🥰Thank you so much for your reply as I was wondering about success stories with the calcium ionophore/AOA.

I just couldn't believe it when none of the 19 mature eggs fertilised, that was a few weeks ago and I'm still in shock as I was told my chances were good. The clinic said that what happened was less than a 1% chance so it feels so unfair. Definitely want to give it another go with the changes, and if the same thing happens again I can maybe draw a line under it. It's just so much money and so much to go through with the fear that it may happen again. It really did feel like the end of the world when we got the phone call with the back news. At least I can go in a bit prepared this time.

How many of your 5 fertilised eggs made it to embryos and what was the quality like, if you can remember? Please don't answer if you don't want, just wondering if the calcium ionophore had much impact on that is all!

So so pleased for you and the outcome you had 🥰

@Warrier87

Hey how are you getting on? Got your little one now? 🥰

Just to come back to update that the second round went much better. We changed donor and used AOA/calcium ionophore and ended up with 7 blastocysts! The fresh transfer didn't work but the first frozen transfer did and I'm now 14 weeks pregnant. I just want to say thank you for your reply on this thread because it really helped to support my determination to try again! 😊

Thank you so much! 🥰 even though it's not my thread I do love a good update when I've been going through the process and reading threads 😊

Me too. Sometimes I see an old thread and think 'oh I really hope that worked out for them.'

  • hi! So sorry I havent got back to your previous message! So glad you reached out!

I'm so happy to hear that you're pregnant. The process is so hard at times, and can really have a toll on you. But I'm so happy to hear you continued and to hear this beautiful news.

You bought happy tears to my eyes when I read your post. Was telling my partner, and we were discussion how this forum really helped us through the ivF process. And I'm so glad to hear it helped you too!

And yes my little one just hit her 4 month birthday. She's my little miracle and I'm so grateful and thankful to have had her.

Wishing you all the best on the pregnancy journey. Just keep nice and relaxed and enjoy every moment. It's such a beautiful process!

Just wanted to update that our baby boy was born a few weeks ago just after his due date, healthy and doing very well 🥰 Without calcium ionophore/Artificial Oocyte Activation it may not have been possible, so grateful for that!

OP I'm sure your little one is growing fast!

ZCarver · 12/09/2025 15:17

Hey sorry to jump on the thread but CONGRATULATIONS on your babies, I love positive stories!

I had a failed ivf round in March 12 eggs only 2 fertilised, transferred one but that failed and the other didnt make it.

Had my 2nd round egg collection this wednesday just gone, got 13 eggs, 8 mature had the call yesterday that None fertilised with ICSI. Theyve said our next step is calcium ionophore/Artificial Oocyte Activation and I'm really nervous of it happening again. xx

Ah I'm so sorry I remember vividly the distress of finding out none had fertilised and thinking that was it. I really hope the calcium ionophore/AOA is just as helpful and successful as it was for me. Keep us updated! 🤞😊
