PCOS and low morphology - just need some encouragement

I'm not really sure what I'm hoping to achieve starting this thread - perhaps a bit of encouragement/support/positivity as well as a bit of realism if necessary.

DP and I are both 33 and have been TTC our first for nearly 2 years now.

We have recently been undergoing investigations and my scans have come back showing I have lots of follicles on my ovaries. I've only been having two periods a year since coming off the pill, so this wasn't a surprise to me at all.

I had an appointment with the fertility nurse yesterday who explained that although I have polycystic ovaries, as my hormone levels are all normal, I don't reach the benchmark for an official diagnosis of PCOS.

She also said that DPs morphology is 1%, which was a bit of a shock as I was fully expecting the problem to be just me and was hoping I'd finally be able to start taking clomid to help with ovulation.

The nurse won't prescribe me anything until DP has had another SA in December. Having read up a bit, it doesn't sound like morphology is the be all and end all, but I'm feeling so disheartened that we have to wait for another 3 months. She also said that if his morphology was still low, we'd be looking at going straight for IVF.

Has anyone got any words of advice or things we can do in the meantime to increase our chances? I was really 'looking forward' to hopefully starting the next step soon, but now it looks like we'll be waiting until 2024.

I'm trying to lose weight and I've started inofolic alpha, and DP is also going to adopt some lifestyle changes (not that there's much to change as we're both very boring and don't drink/smoke etc).

Thank you to anyone who has made it this far. As I say, I'm not sure exactly what I'm hoping to achieve in posting this, but the internet is awash with advice and it all feels so overwhelming on top of feeling pretty miserable.

@TTCBlues I have pcos and he has poor morphology too. Late 30s here ttc baby number 1.
I wasn't having very many periods.
I was prescribed provera to force a bleed , had a dye test and fell pregnant next cycle ( ended in a loss) so its definitely possible with both pcos and low morphology.

I did 4 months of clomid after this , unfortunately didn't get pregnant. I'm now starting ivf next month.

@MoonlightDreamer thank you for replying, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope IVF goes well for you and is successful! Are you going through the NHS, and how long has it taken since your referral?

Yes I'm going through nhs. I'm in n.ireland and waiting list times are beyond ridiculous.
I waited over 3 years to see a gynaecologist to prescribe me clomid. The ivf referral was alot quicker than this. We were referred to the fertility clinic last August due to his results. We've had all tests, consents and treatment outline all done at this stage and now we're ready to begin ( cycle dependent) .

@MoonlightDreamer wow that's a ridiculously long wait to start clomid! Glad things are moving for you now. Best of luck 🙂

Hi.
Sorry I can't help with your question but I think you should query what they said about not meeting the criteria for a PCOS diagnosis. From memory everything I've seen has said you need two of these three to be diagnosed:

1 Cysts on ovaries (seen on a scan)

2 No periods/ irregular periods

3 Acne / excess hair (or blood test showing high androgens)

www.nhs.uk/conditions/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos/diagnosis/

Good luck with everything. I'm currently on a waiting list for my first fertility appointment at the hospital x

Our doctor advised impryl or proxeed for my husband's low morphology. I'm not sure it made any difference or not as we didn't have any tests after starting it and due to my own issues needed IVF anyway. It also takes six months to make a difference apparently. I've also heard about people's husband's being prescribed clomid to help sperm parameters but I don't know what it helps with and if the NHS would be willing to do this but something to look into maybe 😊
