Secondary infertility and IVF

Hi all

Long time reader, first time poster.

We have recently been diagnosed with secondary infertility due to PCO (not S), large number of follicles but suspect I am ovulating although bloods very borderline at 27 for progesterone on day 21 adjusted. We also now have MFI due to low morphology.

Both got good BMIs fit and healthy and fairly good diets. DS was conceived after 8 months and is nearly 3. Been TTC for around 18 months.

Just looking for some advice/ success stories. We have been advised IVF with ICSI but not sure whether go for it or if it is jumping the gun. I am 28 and DH is 33 so time is on our side but not sure how much longer I can deal with the disappointment each month and really want a sibling.

We aren't overly bothered about having frozen embabys as this would most likely be our last baby. But I don't want to enter into IVF if I am not 100% in how I feel in myself (health wise) but also don't want to wait until infertility as totally broken me and I feel IVF is a last resort.

Hello! We started ivf after 18 months of trying for - we also had secondary infertility. My issues were fibroids, thin lining and a blocked tube. My husband had no issues. We decided to go for ivf at that time because I was 34 and my AMH was good for my age but at the lower end of normal. We thought it would therefore it was best to get god quality embryos out sooner rather than later.

You are 28 which is a great age for ivf. With your husbands low morphology, there are quite a lot of things you can do to try and improve it e.g diet and supplements. I would also book an appointment with Dr Jonathan Ramsey who is the expert on all things sperm.

I would also investigate more as to whether you actually are ovulating or not - this is key. If you are not it's best to crack on with ivf, or look at clomid/letrozole.

If I were you I would spend 6 more months focusing on testing, see Dr Ramsey and get someone to monitor one of your natural cycles so they can see exactly what's going on.

Then if you need to do ivf you will be so much more informed. IVF is tough, emotionally and physically. But I also understand that the natural trying and disappointment every month can slowly kill you - it nearly did me.

We were actually pretty successful in terms of egg collection with ivf - we ended up with 4 blasts. But all 3 transfers failed. We were getting ready to do another egg collection and I got pregnant naturally. Now I'm 11 weeks. All the ivf prodding did sort out my fibroids and thin lining so it was helpful but ultimately my body just wanted to go another way. It's just a miraculous baby!

Best of luck with everything - I understand your pain! X

Thanks so much for the reply.

On the scan it said that I had some cloudy ness which did suggest I am ovulating. Do you have any recommendations for male supplements?

Whilst I am not old I am concerned about I will be 30 soon and take the approach of you, the sooner the better I suppose?

I have heard about Dr Ramsay- I will check him out!

Congratulations on your little miracle!
