Thinking should I postpone IVF...

Just after some advice really, need a sounding board!

So I've had a very strange journey trying to conceive my first baby. I came off my contraception pill in June 2021, and didn't have a period or ovulate on my own for about 2 years. My treatment was various round of clomid and the trigger shot to make me ovulate. In doing that I've had a fair few cycles that looked promising but no success.

My first few bleeds were induced by Provera. My body then had a period on its own in December following my fertility medication. After that I had a laroscopy, hycosy and ovarian drilling procedure and took a break from medication before trying clomid again one more time in May. again no joy on that front.

I noticed changes in my cycle in July... and subsequently ovulated and had a period randomly, with zero fertility medication. I've actually just come on again and so had a 30 day cycle twice. I'm still slightly baffled how I've gone from an awol cycle to it being so regular back to back in July and August but I'm obviously very happy about it.

anyway... we are literally just about to start IVF. After my May round of clomid I contacted my consultant and asked to progress straight to IVF as I was fed up with doing clomid over and over with no luck. I had my letter through for out IVF info session before I had my first natural cycle.

My thoughts now are should we still try IVF? Or would you take a step back and try a few natural cycles? I'm 34 and my husband is 38.

I'm torn between giving my body a chance or trying what we can so that we don't lose anymore time... would appreciate any thoughts!

Hi, I wanted to reply as know how lonely it can be when you are thinking through the options. However only you can make this decision depending on how long you are willing to give natural a try, whether you would have any regrets either way, whether stress is a factor that could influence and of course financial impact if you go the IVF route.

I didn't want to do IVF for so long as wanted to concieve naturally so I kept going, it didn't work for me and it was only once I had IVF that I realised the reasons why it hasn't happened for me...hormonal imbalances all over the place and premature ovulation of immature eggs.

This is a very personal decision so I can only tell you what I did, the questions i asked myself just before i opted for IVF and hope it is helpful.

Wishing you all the best. X

In my case it took multiple cycles of IVF (did also try Clomid then tried naturally for a few months) so for me the right thing would have been not to delay IVF but it is so personal and sadly no one can predict the future. Hope it works out for you.

Just to add to the previous post when I did start IVF it took 2 years and 10+ cycles to get 4 embryos xxx
