IVF despite cyst?

Hi all, I am about to start my second IVF round today (first round from back in March was a fail and no eggs were viable for freezing, so doing a fresh cycle now, after a 4 month break).

Baseline scan last week showed a post-ovulation cyst in one ovary so they couldnt see if there were any follicles behind it. The other ovary had 4 follicles. They said they wanted to repeat the scan on day 1 to see if the cyst diasppears. Day 1 scan (yesterday) showed that the cyst was still there and they could see only one follicle behind it. They said there could be more but no way of telling. They wanted to do a blood test to see if the cyst was dormant or was screwing around with hormones; the test showed the cyst is dormant so they said they would be happy to proceed with the cycle if i am. They said the cyst is just taking a bit longer to dissolve away and they arent worried about it messing with the cycle as the tests have shown its dormant.

My question is, does anyone have an experience like this? What was the cycle like?

Yep I have experience! At my baseline scan it was discovered I had a cyst on each ovary which the clinic thought was caused by the buserelin. Like you they took bloods to see if they were releasing hormones and because they weren’t they advised I was fine to proceed and it shouldn’t affect the cycle.

However I went ahead and to everyone’s shock I responded very poorly to the stims. My left side didn’t respond at all and I had 4 follicles on my right. Luckily this resulted in 4 eggs, 3 great quality blasts and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant so it all worked out in the end BUT the cycle was very stressful. The clinic said the cysts shouldn’t have affected anything but there was no other explanation for the poor response. I’m 32, have a great AMH for my age and all of my tests came back good. The clinic did say if I had to do another cycle in future they would want to make sure I was completely clear of cysts.

so I would take the advice of your clinic but ultimately proceed with caution! I did a lot of reading online re cysts and ivf and most times they lead to a delayed/cancelled cycle.

@noaddedsugarx - ah thank you so much for sharing your expreience! Gosh I am a bit worried now but Its day 3 of cycle (so day 2 of injections today) ....so I will just keep at it having started. I am 35 and low AMH so I doubt i'll be as lucky as you. I just dont know what to think of all this anymore.. I almost feel indifferent (almost bored out of it).

@CDiamond Oh I'm so sorry I didn't mean to worry you! To be honest I was probably one of the unlucky ones with the way I responded. It definitely doesn't mean that you will go the same way and even if you do only have a few follicles it's quality over quantity and at 35 you should still have some very good quality eggs :)

Ahh I know what you mean. It does feel a bit like just going through the motions sometimes doesn't it. I wish you all the luck in the world with your cycle x
