Hi,

Due to have a Laparoscopy / Hysteroscopy & HSG in 3 weeks time on the NHS. Never had surgery before so feeling quite nervous but also after TTC for 16 months, very pleased that the date is getting closer.

Had an internal scan which showed that I have a cyst on my left Fallopian tube and a cyst on the right too. Along with fluid in the cavity.

The surgeon also mentioned will need to check for endometriosis. Have no symptoms that makes me think I have it. Was on the pill from the age of 16 to 30 without many breaks. Since coming off the pill, have mainly just had brown periods which is quite strange.

Any tips for recovery? Also if you have had this procedure, how long did you wait until you could resume TTC? I know I should be thinking about recovery (and of course I am and I understand it differs for each individual) but keen to understand how long you waited!

Thank you

I had a cyst on my left ovary which demanded surgery due to pains during period. Turns out I had endometriosis. I wasn't TTC but am aware of many who have managed to conceive naturally after laparoscopy. I was also on pill from 15- 30something due to heavy periods and seems the pill masked all the symptoms. I've had laparoscopy twice for diff reasons (1st was cyst/endo where they also found adeno). 2nd was during IVF treatment I had it to have a tube clipped and they also removed some endo.
Recovery was 3 weeks both times.
1st time I had single dissolving stitch in each incision sight (3). 2nd time I had glue and a horizontal cut in the pubic area. I have no preference to be honest. I used silicone scar sheets a few weeks later as I can sometimes get raised scars.

Tips for recovery rest, light walking EVERY SINGLE DAY even if it is just in the house (stairs are quite hard initially). I had severe pain in my ribs due to the gas the best relief for this was to stay upright. I also slept almost upright (best advise EVER!) every night to get a good nights sleep, no lifting, take things easy as it will help speed up the recovery process.

We were told minimum 6 weeks until we could start IVF again

Hi @Em290821 I had a laparoscopy etc last year to remove endo, my consultant said we can TTC the following month! I think we waited two months though. Whatever you do, do not lift or do anything more than what they tell you once in recovery as the scars and hernias it may cause could cause other problems down the line!

Hi @Em290821 I had a lap and dye test in Dec 2019. They didn’t find any endo luckily. I had it done on day 4 of my cycle so I ended up trying 2 weeks after op and conceived my son after 4 years of unexplained infertility. In regards to recovery, rest a lot and peppermint tea or supplements for the gas pain in your shoulder and a soft cushion to put in between yourself and the seatbelt for the journey home. Take care and good luck 🤞🏼
