Any success stories for low amh result

Hi . I got my amh result yesterday and its 5.34 pmol/l and I'm very disheartened.

I don't think Ivf will be an option for us . We have 2 children already concieved naturally but there is a big age gap. Is it possible to get pregnant on an amh this low. I'm guessing time will be more limited . I'm 34 years old . I am going for more testing to factor in other things and having a scan so I know that will also tell me more . Thanks

Hi, I just did a fertility MOT and got Amh of 1.2 and 5 follicles counted. I am just turned 37, and have regular periods. The private doctor told this was very low for my age, the clinic couldn't help me and that IVF success would be only 10% likelihood. Is this feedback normal? I'm shell shocked and feel like I've nowhere to go now. Any clinic recommendations with similar stats to mine are welcome, I'm near London.

In what measurement is your AMH? Is it P/mol?

JJtrying · 28/09/2024 20:28

Yes

KimberleyT7 · 29/09/2024 20:13

@JJtrying have you been trying naturally at all? Low AMH makes you a “bad” candidate for IVF because you won’t produce loads of eggs at each collection. But if you’re trying naturally it only takes one!

Lebe14 · 30/09/2024 08:25

@Spinkyttc I have low AMH (4pmol when last tested) and I've not responded well to IVF. Out of 3 cycles I made 3 embryos.

I'm doing a 4th cycle with another clinic, who is doing more to support my low ovarian reserve.

I have been TTC for 5 years and NEVER had a natural pregnancy. I did have a chemical pregnancy with my first IVF transfer.

I would recommend if you move forward with IVF to really research your clinic beforehand to ensure they will cater for your low AMH. Then you could do a multi cycle / embryo banking if money allows.

Happy to answer any Qs you may have xx

That's really helpful thank you. I actually retested my AMH and it was 28pmol so I'm happy, however it seems to jump about all over the place so I don't know what to believe! I have been pregnant twice, the first time was a chemical and the second ended in an early miscarriage, me and my OH are having a break for a few years due to personal circumstances. I am 28 so I hope by the time we try (early 30s) I'll be okay x

Yes for 6 months during which time I had no idea I had an issue. The doctor implied that my chances were less than 10% naturally (which I guess is similar to an average 45 year old rather than someone my age). So I suppose I feel I should try IVF even if it's not very advantageous for me. @lebe14 what are the old and new clinics you have tried?

Hannah123456789012 · 01/10/2024 09:52

@JJtrying I am so sorry that you are going through this - it’s such a heartbreaking experience, but I have been in a similar position and I now have a 7 month old little girl so please please don’t give up hope!

I’m not an expert but I found from both my own experience and other stories I have read - low Amh can just be one piece of the puzzle and not necessarily the reason someone can’t conceive naturally. This was the case for me - I was fortunate enough that as I was just starting the IVF process my clinic picked up something in a scan and I was sent for surgery (endometriosis removal) and then able to conceive naturally. Had this not been picked up, I would have gone through IVF but with limited chances of success due to my low Amh.

I therefore highly recommend a diagnostic laparoscopy as this is what identified my issue (although I appreciate this may not be the answer for everyone!). This is where a surgeon goes and actually looks at your womb, fallopian tubes, and ovaries (keyhole surgery) so can pick up various conditions which might be able to be corrected.

Have you had any other scans or diagnostic tests, or was it just an amh test and follicle count?

I was using Care Fertility and think they were fantastic but I had to find a private surgeon for my laparoscopy. I have no idea if Care are experts in low Amh - it’s just thanks to them that my endometriosis was diagnosed and treated properly otherwise I could well have been going through multiple rounds of IVF without success.

I hope this helps a little - sending you heaps of love and hope! 💕

@JJtrying I also had a fertility MOT at about 37 and it was follicle count of 7 and AMH 1.54 pmol/L. I was told this was a really dreadful result for my age and they gave me a really low percentage chance for conceiving too. I was advised to freeze my eggs or get a sperm donor pronto. I didn't. I'm now 40 and 34 weeks pregnant (spontaneous conception). I have had 3 miscarriages in short succession before that all v early around 6 weeks but no cause found by recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was told to just keep on trying, seemed to be a case of getting a good egg. I also took supplements mentioned in it starts with the egg. Low AMH isn't a reason to have IVF. It just gives a vague idea as to what egg reserve might be, nothing to do with egg quality or ability to get pregnant. My AMH must be close to zero now so I hope this gives you hope. It's worth remembering that low AMH means possibly less likely to respond well to IVF drugs in any case. Your best bet would be saving your money and trying naturally and taking all the supplements and trying to relax

Thought I would add my 2 pence onto this thread as I spent so many hours trawling mumsnet when I got my low amh score. I hadn’t started trying ttc yet but wanted to do the test for piece of mind and it came back as 4.6 amh, so very low for my age (30 at the time). In sheer panic we decided we had to try right then and we were pregnant with our son within a month… Still thinking that he must have been some sort of miracle and the low amh would hamper any chances of a second child, we tried again when he was 9 months old and were pregnant again first month.

When I got given that amh, it was a doom and gloom story I was given by the doctor - so I spent ages on here trying to find some sort of hope, so wanted to reassure anyone in my situation!

I also had the follicle scan and it was an equally depressing picture - so it does show that low amh/egg count really doesn’t hamper natural conception!

hope that gives some hope so people!

Hi there! This is very reassuring- and a belated congratulations! Thank you for sharing.

I know this is such an old post but similarly to you, I went for an AMH test (I turn 26 in Feb) just because I have a general health anxiety and I’ve always wanted children

mine is low at 10.4 (also had an ultra sound which showed low follicle count).

I’ve felt so depressed since I found out yesterday - really feeling hopeless and inadequate. My boyfriend is very supportive and said if we need to try for a baby now then so be it!

We aren’t married (which I really wanted to be before we have kids) but I suppose this test has put everything into perspective….

@Lilly1102 at 38 I had a fertility MOT andy.amj was 1.54 pmol/L and AFC was 7. I'm now 40 and have a 4 week old baby, conceived naturally. My AMH is probably zero now lol . Please don't let these results freak you out. It doesn't mean you can't conceive naturally and.yojr result is way better than mine was

That is so sweet, congrats on your newborn, you must be so delighted. That is reassuring to know, I have been really down about it because I’m only 26! I don’t think I should risk waiting until I’m 30 (as I’d initially panned)

Just wandered on and saw a red notification for this thread. My amh was around 2.1. My baby is now almost one and arrived after three rounds and a mock cycle. I had the endemtrio test (always struggled with lining!) and also extra progesterone and steroids on my successful round as they time I had a progesterone test on transfer day and it was through the floor even with lots of pessaries. I also had a Hysteroscopy bit that didn’t show anything. Lots of good info came from my endemetrio. I was with care Manchester. They were brill. Good luck ladies xx

IvfMamaToMyBoy · 17/08/2025 15:42

So in August I went through my first round of ivf which resulted in retrieving 5 eggs 3 of which made it to day 5 and had a fresh transfer which has resulted in my precious baby boy who is now 17 weeks old, this was provided by nhs which I am ever so grateful for, so I have a low ovarian reserve and I'm about to turn 27, having my baby boy has made me realise how much I want a 2nd child, I just really would love to experience it once more and give him a brother or sister as I know the love of a sibling bond and how strong it is, with both me and my partner working we however wouldn't be able to afford a round of ivf privately, has anyone been in the same boat and managed to concieve naturally after having an ivf baby or how did they move past the want for another child, thank you for taking the time to read this and any advice given

JJtrying · 17/08/2025 22:24

@Marj84 just to say thanks for your reply last year. I've just had my baby conceived naturally. You were right! Fertility clinics use AMH to scare you into IVF. I finally went somewhere good where they told me it had no influence on egg quality.

EctopicLoss · 08/01/2026 14:28

@Marj84 hey! Congratulations on your pregnancy. Im approaching 40 and have an amh of 2. Stressing out and wondering whether you did anything to help concieve. Weve been trying for nearly 3 years and got pregnant once which ended in miscarriage and 1 failed ovf round.

Hey thank you! Sorry to hear about the IVF and the miscarriage. The only thing I did was try to improve egg quality by taking vitamins etc that were in the book called 'it starts with the egg'. I followed the recurrent miscarriage vitamin plan in the book as the issue seemed to be it sticking which I think must have been egg quality (had 3 early miscarriages in row before having son just shy of 41). Looking back I probably was drinking less at the time in leading up to pregnancy as had just had an early miscarriage before getting pregnant again so hadn't been drinking while pregnant.

How did you respond to the stimulation in IVF ? They say low amh won't produce as many eggs? What's your plan are you going to give IVF another shot or try naturally ?

EctopicLoss · 08/01/2026 20:37

@Marj84
Thanks for responding!! Im so happy it worked out for you.

I feel like ive been taking vitamins for years, ive only just started a new batch based on a nutritionist. Ovum prenatal, omega 3, nmn.
Ill revisit it stsrt with an egg. I have also been stressed out so im sure that doesnt help.

I didnt respond well I got 5 eggs and 1 made it to day 5 but had too many chromosomes after getting tested. They have suggested a lower stim protocol but i just really dont want to go through that again. Its just that I cant seem to get pregnant in the last few years. When ttc for my 1st, I concieved after few months of trying each time but miscarried 3 times before I had my girl.

Its draining me.

Ovum is meant to be really good! I think it has most of if not all the stuff mentioned in that book. My sister (also low AMH but not as low as mine) was recommended that recently when she was getting her eggs frozen. She found the whole process really stressful and was advised by the clinic to try fertility acupuncture which really helped her to relax and she said it was really good and she got a better result with the next cycle , maybe worth giving it a shot?

I assume they tested your other half? Have they said the reason for the difficulty conceiving or it unexplained? You always hear people getting lucky when they take their mind off it, easier said than done! I'm now 42 and wanting a second but have managed to have about 4 v early miscarriages/chemicals in the last 6 months (I get pregnant freakishly easily but it's the sticking that's always been tricky!) I assume it's just a case of catching a good egg and a bit of luck!

EctopicLoss · 08/01/2026 22:01

@Marj84 awww im sorry for your miscarriages. Maybe try low dose aspirin after youve ovulated, I heard this helps. I did this when I got pregnant with my 1st.

No reason given, they suspect ive probably got pregnant but had an early loss, but I always test early so I dont think its that. My partner has has his sperm tested and all fine. Ill try acpunture, and maybe give it one last go and hope for the best. Who knew this journey could be so hard. Its also the pressure from everyone..shouldn't bother me but it does 🥴

Marj84 · 08/01/2026 22:15

I've tried everything and had all the recurrent miscarriage tests even an endometrial biopsy and all normal! I reckon it's just catching a good egg probably, tbh I had almost given up hope and I remember when I was pregnant I said 'here we go again' expecting it to fail really early.

Have you heard

Sorry my phone cut out before I could finish my last post! I was going to say have you heard of Prof brosens at Coventry ? I found him from searching mumsnet and the tommies recurrent miscarriage website page. I went to see him for an endometrial biopsy as his implantation clinic as he's a leading expert on recurrent miscarriage and infertility. He also took a set of bloods to assess hormone levels etc. my results were all normal buy hey ho. I'm thinking maybe as you've the history of recurrent miscarriage and now difficulties conceiving it's worth getting it checked as it could be a problem with implantation that some treatment could sort? I referred myself directly and paid I think about 700 quid and was seen v quickly
