Fertility clinic advise.

So I found out I was pregnant yesterday(pictures attached) very early 4 weeks on my app.

I was sent to the fertility clinic in 2022 for recurrent miscarriage and beginning of 2023 I underwent tests which all come back normal so was advised it's a case of trying until I succeed. With that letter I got sent it states that people who are seen early on have more of a chance of having a successful pregnancy so scans can be book 7,9, 12 and 16 weeks... my question is has anyone had the same thing but requested for bloods to be done like every week to make sure there levels are rising plus progesterone is all normal as it also states on the letter of any bleeding is to occur I can be prescribed progesterone but with that being said I'd rather be seen each week so it hopefully doesn't get to that and if anything is caught early I've got more chance if that makes sense.

Thankyou for reading.. I'm just really nervous and want to stay hopeful that this time is my time.

@deanna23

Hi, I’ve just come across your post and didn’t want to read and run.

Firstly, congratulations on your bfp!!

Regarding clinics and additional tests, we paid private for investigation and then had our first and only funded IVF round last month. 5 eggs, 4 fertilised and only 2 made it to day 5 blasts so against their “usual” protocol they transferred both.

I went for my HCG bloods yesterday to confirm the 29473822 sticks I’d tiddled on. My levels are good and because it was our only funded shot I did ask if we could have extra tests (even if we have to pay privately for those) and they said usually unless there are low levels, recurrent problems they just wait for the scan. I’m on Lubion progesterone injections once a day instead of Cyclogest pessaries as those gave me horrendous thrush and even though there’s a massive dosage difference the body absorbs sub cutaneous more effectively apparently. So you could always ask for that and additional tests and see what they say, they can only say yes or no.

Good luck x

@deanna23 congratulations!!! 🥰

defibitelt contact your nearest EPU unit as they can offer early scans/bloods through NHS. They are usually quite helpful. They also can prescribe progesterone if they think needed! I used them for a scan at 6 wks at my last transfer (although will usually wait until 7 weeks unless bleeding).

I got told I could only take progesterone unless there's a bleed but I'd rather not risk getting to that point, if I'm seen by a doc and closely monitored and then the docs can intervene if somethings off? If that makes sense, I'd rather cover every angle to give myself the best chance this time.

After 4 miscarriages and the loss of 5 babies I can't mentally go through another loss it's exhausting.

@deanna23 its worth asking EPU and telling them about your miscarriages, I don’t know what their protocol is ie. Progesterone. I’ve always been on it but that’s cause I’m having fertility treatment. You could maybe ask your GP if they would prescribe for you considering the history of miscarriages?

Do they give it to you with out a bleed tho?
This is why I want bloods because if any levels start to drop I've got the best chance of catching it early and hopefully have a successful pregnancy

I'm not sure you would have to ask them! I think they do recommend to take progesterone even without bleeding if previous miscarriages (or certainly Tommys advice this) I do know if you have had previous miscarriages they will be more likely to give you early scans/bloods though. Usually they just offer bloods for beta hcg levels. If they won't give you anything maybe could contact a local fertility clinic if willing to pay privately?

Hi, for my recurrent miscarriages I was seeing a recurring miscarriage specialist privately.
At the same time I was undergoing IVF privately as well.
The IVF clinic had prescribed Progesterone for 12 weeks.
The specialist , in the spirit to cover all bases, prescribed Clexane & progestrone for 36 weeks. I was also put on steroids for 20 weeks to remove the risk of my body rejecting it. I was seeing this consultant since after second miscarriage, she knew my history.

If you can find a private consultant, they might be able to prescribe it to you earlier than NHS.
For blood checks, you can do privately with Medicheck and then follow up with consultant , till 10 weeks. After that NHS can get the prescription from consultant & take it forward.

OP I don't have anything to add but I hope you're doing well x
