Can only afford own egg IVF OR egg donation IVF

Hello

I don’t know what to do and I’m hoping for some wise advice.

We’ve done two rounds of IVF. First one - 4 eggs, all fertilised, none made past day 3.

Second one - 6 eggs, 1 fertilised, waiting to see what happens with that. Not looking likely.

I am very open to a donor cycle, but can only afford to do either two more rounds of own egg IVF, or one donor egg package (which pretty much guarantees they keep going until you get a live birth).

I’ve been pregnant before and had no problems until they found a genetic abnormality - so I’m hopeful that once it’s in it might be ok?

It feels to me like my egg quality is obviously terrible - AMH is 2 - and there are no good ones left.

Should I just go to donor egg?

Sorry you haven’t had success thus far. Have you totally ruled out male factor?

Age is also obviously a big thing to consider. An AMH of 2 in a younger person doesn’t mean the egg quality is bad but could be a big obstacle if you’re older.

Where did the genetic abnormality come from?
Has the male factor been tested? Is everything right on that side?
What about genetic compatibility?
Age?

There are too many factors.

I am a SMBC and ended up not using my own eggs, due to being a carrier for an illness (X chromossome related, so its a 50% chance, not some remote possibilty) and age, and went straight to embryo donation, which was also much cheaper than egg donation and sperm donation together. (and the embryo was from 2 donors, in the end, which was perfect)

Thanks so much for your replies.

Male factor is fine, has been tested both times.

Age - 38, I’m still not totally clear what that combined with AMH of 2 means.

Genetic abnormality was Down’s syndrome assessed as a one off not likely to recur (likely age related I assume).

Basically after the latest cycle results I can’t see what can dramatically improved?

I don’t want to spend the money I have in two more goes at own egg and then have no option to be able to try donated eggs :(

The low AMH means you have fewer eggs, but with stimulation you should still get a few.

The problem seems to be quality.

If it were me, id go for donor, if it is one or the other. It gives you the best chance, even if it is not a complete guarantee.

That ended up being my option. I could have tried with my eggs, but I didnt have endless resources and wanted to give myself the best possible chance, so opted for donor straight away (never even tried with mine!)

it is a very personal decision, though.

I agree that after tow goes round it does seem to be quality, I’m concerned that the clinic keep saying “it could be different next time” which of course it could, but I don’t want to spend all my money looking for that one last good egg and then not have the chance for a donation option.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m very much leaning towards going for a donated egg next, but of course it takes a bit of getting used to.
