What happens if you have no eggs to transfer?

Hi all,

I had one mature embryo collected yesterday which fertilised in a clinic in Brno (Reprofit). Originally I planned to do PGT testing (as I’ve just had four miscarriages back to back through natural conception, I have one DS and had a couple of miscarriages before I had him so now I’ve had 6 miscarriages in total). After egg collection yesterday I was trying to have a conversation with the doctor to see what my options were but I was just hurried along. Since then I have done a bit more research and realised that it would have been better if I stayed in Brno and did a day 3 transfer since if there is only one egg at play (there’s a second one but 0/2 grading so I assume unlikely to develop).

I tried to ask for a meeting via my coordinator and all I got was a message from the doctor to say that day 3 transfer is booked for me without talking it through with me.

I guess my choices are to wait and see if it makes day 5 and then do the genetic testing or try and do a day 3 transfer which will involve a fair bit of stress and travelling tomorrow back to Brno.

Does anyone know if the embryo never made it past day 5 and I had nothing to test etc would I still have to pay the full ivf fee? In which case I may as well go through the hassle?

Hi, I believe that partially refunded cycles are classed as cancelled when they don't go to egg collection. It's probably clinic specific but from the many experiences I've read about that seems to be the case. As they've done egg collection, fertilisation and are culturing the embryo then they will probably charge you. It sounds like they haven't given you the best advice so you could always leverage that if possible. Best of luck with your embryo :)

Hi OP, in my experience yes they still charge you the full amount. Wishing you all the best. X

Hello!
my first time using a forum and mumsnet! We are about to got for an ivf cycle in Brno at Reprofit. Slightly confused and going direct to them so would be grateful for any advice. We visited the clinic in person earlier in the year but not sure about logistics.

If you can help with my questions I’d be very grateful! After first day of your cycle, did you then book flights or did you gamble and book flights earlier on with a few days leeway? Did you find it easy to get scans privately in the U.K.? Also are any medication suppliers recommended? We previously used Stork when we have ivf in the U.K. but I don’t know if any others and pricing.
Id really like the process to be smooth but feel I have to do a fair bit of organising especially as the coordinator and doctors English is not amazing (and nor is my Czech!). Hubby is trying but I think I need to take control of the process.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

@CuriousGeorge80 @Imisscoffee2021 thanks for your replies and you were right, unfortunately no refund for me.

@Simble7 will be happy to help with any questions, feel free to PM me. Once they write out the protocol they send it to fertility2u which I believe is their only supplier in U.K. a word of warning is that they were missing the injections that I would have needed to take just before egg collection. That’s why I decided to fly to Brno for my second scan so that I could pick them up there. For my first scan I used a company called Ultrasound Plus.

I booked the flights as soon as my cycle started and they confirmed that I could have my day 9 scan with them. What I found challenging with Reprofit is that they didn’t give me the right advice at the end or provide any explanation to why it was looking like I was only going to have one mature egg collected. If you’ve done ivf before and you know what to look out for and what to ask though then it’s good value for money.

Hi! I read you mentioned Reprofit. Did you have any reviews about this clinic in Brno? Or do you know if there is any open topic in the forum about this clinic? I’m looking for recent reviews!

Hi @anna132, there’s an active Facebook page called Reprofit Brno International IVF support forum I recommend checking out. The first transfer was a bit challenging as it was my first time doing IVF and they don’t do any hand holding. Second time they changed the protocol and now I’m 18 weeks pregnant. Overall, if you know your way around ivf and what to do and what questions to ask then it is a cost effective clinic, Brno is also a wonderful city and easy to get to and cheap… locals very friendly too. Based on my experience of the second transfer then I would recommend them. Feel free to ask me any other questions.
