Bea Fertility - has anybody tried this?

(I also posted this in the Conceiving thread. Sorry, still kinda new and finding my way around!)

My husband and I have been trying for nearly two years with no luck. We’ve been for the tests and he has low motility and poor sperm morphology. We are willing to try almost anything to conceive, especially as getting onto the ivf waitlist is still a little while off.

You can probably imagine the tonnes of ivf and fertility adverts the algorithms throw at me and one caught my eye recently: Bea Fertility. It’s an at-home fertility kit and the treatment is called intracervical insemination. It’s currently £250 for three cycles worth. I’m definitely curious but also apprehensive to commit to it as I’m struggling to find any reviews or success stories. My wonderful (but incredibly cynical husband) has already quipped, ‘If it looks like s##t and smells like s##t, then it’s probably s##t’. I’m not quite ready to write it off just yet!

So, here I am… Mumsnetters: any opinion on Bea Fertility? Success stories? Non-success stories? Opinions?

Hi there. My wife and I have gone for this (just for clarity, I'm a man but mumsnet has some of the best forums for fertility and I do the research given my background and my wife having dyslexia).

We did a Béa cycle last month with no joy and have just done the second.

For Béa, you really want to look at ICI success rates for people similar to you, as that is all it is. I read an interview with one of the founders that made me think it was worth a try, especially at the discounted rates you mentioned above (they say it's usually £750 for 3 cycles but still currently at the £250 introductory offer, enough felt acceptable for us). Have a look at some of the research on whether ICI improves rates with low motility and morphology, or equally with your AMH, age and anything other readings you have.

We're on their email newsletter and they've stated that the first pregnancy from using Béa applicators has happened but I don't know more at this point.

From the survey on their website, it said it would likely not benefit my wife but we thought we'd try it all the same.

To use, it's very straightforward, you just need to be on the case with the LH strips as we didn't do it perfectly last month so that could be a factor for us. But yes, easy to use and follow the steps.

One last point - we were on the NHS waiting list for 2 years for IVF, so I would say to be aware that it's likely a very long time (and when we did get it the service was frustratingly poor). We've since done several rounds privately which, although they went better than the NHS round (transfers and quality of care), they didn't result in a positive pregnancy test so here we are.

All the best.

I've not used Bea but have used a cheaper alternative called TwoPlus which does basically the same thing. Second cycle of using it (only one day that cycle) and I got pregnant, sadly ended in MMC but will be using it again this month now we're back trying again. My partner has issues ejaculating from sex so I just check my opks and then when it's the right time (day before, day of and day after ovulation) he does his thing then I do mine is the plan!

Wow, I'd not heard of them before but see that their prices are way cheaper. Any idea why that might be? Is there any difference in the product? Applicators look very different but I can't tell much more from the web page.

@thanksinadvance I'm not too sure - the cap for Bea is different i.e. you literally pour the sperm into the cap and then that sits inside whereas with TwoPlus you can get the little add on thing that helps keep it inside but it's basically a much nicer feeling syringe kit than anything else 😅all I know is that I got pregnant from it second cycle of trying, and only using it once that month which I'm taking as a win.

Thanks for this, good to know. We've ordered some to try so will see how it goes (your timing was excellent as we were about to spend £350 on Béa again, too, so thanks for that too 😀)

I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered a TwoPlus kit as there’s an extra 15% off right now. Figured it’s worth a shot before we hopefully go onto the IVF waitlist in the next few months. I’ll keep you updated!
