NHS IVF consultation to treatment time

Hi everyone,

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over 3 years without any luck. After numerous tests we were finally referred for ivf and our funding approval came through a few weeks ago. We have our first consultation on 25th July at Kingston hospital. At the moment I’m feeling optimistic but also very anxious and I’m keen to know if any one has any idea how long it might be before we can start treatment after our initial consultation. Unfortunately, time really isn’t on our side. I’m 39 now and I’ll be 40 in February next year so I’m really worried that we will run out of time to start treatment if there is a long wait time or that we may only get to have one round of ivf before I reach the cut off age.

I’m also keen to understand how many appointments I might need to have whilst I’m undergoing treatment so I can gauge how much time I might need to take off work.

If anyone has any experience of having nhs funded ivf (particularly at Kingston acu) I would be really interested to hear your input.

It's really difficult to say. You will both need the standard tests they do and then they will come up with a protocol for you. My initial tests were in June 2021 and I had my egg retrieval the following February. Every case will be different but you will have to be patient because it's not a quick process by any means x

I've not had NHS funded but I am at Kingston to have my baby after getting pregnant via IVF, and I would just advise push push push, chase up, follow up. Like you day you have a bit of a deadline at 40, to get an egg collection round in.

I did NHS application at Kingston too, didn't get as far as funding approved as we went private whilst waiting to hear back from them thinking the NHS one may be a contingency if our private rounds didn't work, and they rang me to-day we hadn't filled something in once, and when I said I'm sure we had a few moments later she found it on their system just sitting there so my application hadn't progressed. They're very overwhelmed but this is so important, so don't be shy about chasing things up and pushing to get those tests in that you need before beginning the stimulation cycle, like Amh, antral follicle count scan and seven parameters.

I jad to chase my private one a but regarding meds etc, and many other ladies in a group I'm in on here had to do the same. Best to be an advocate for yourself especially with a define, Hooe all goes well! :)

Hey guys,
I know this is an older post but thought may be worth asking anyway. I was wondering if anyone had any past or recent experience with Kingston ACU and their consent protocols around IVF and FET’s. Besides doing a new consent forms each time time you’re doing a cycle and besides seeing your male partner for their sperm sample, were they also made to turn up face to face for at-least one appointment to reconfirm they still consent?
If you can share your experience either way and include when it was as I understand protocols can change periodically.

I have called multiple private clinics who besides consent forms don’t make male partners physically attend medically unnecessary appointments to re-confirm they still ‘consent’. Surely that is the point of the consent forms and surely they are aware of their right to withdraw consent at anytime.

I am a bit peed off he needs to keep taking time off work for this as if he is incompetent and doesn’t read what he signs. It just hammers home our infertility plight and the way it has cost us so much in terms of other commitments.

Anyone who doesn’t mind to share their experience on this even if at different clinics would be hugely appreciated.

They have refused him attending via a video call and their excuse this time was ‘poor’ connection even though last time it was that they had an incident where a couple broke up female partner and used frozen embryo without their male partners consent, which ai am assuming means they didn’t have him coming in to ‘reconfirm’ as nothing gets done without at least a consent form

Thanks and baby dust to all :)

I'm not at Kingston but thought I'd share my experience anyway. We had our first consultation in Feb this year and are expecting to start in October. Timescales do really vary between areas , and also including between patients as waiting times with clinics vary throughout the year so what one patient and another patient experience at same clinic may not be the same
