Hi all,

Looking for someone going through a similar situation to mine or has been through.

Around last year, we went through some tests and realised my husband had a very low sperm count. He had many appointments with a urologist but we weren't getting very far. Finally they told him a SSR would be the only way. They managed to extract a few and froze them.

I was then told to start treatment from my side. However, this second scan showed I had polyps now which I never had last year. I started the injections and have done the trigger. Now waiting for egg retrieval. After egg retrieval, they will have to freeze and after a hysteroscopy for polyp removal, then I will be able to do an embryo transfer if all goes well which I'm hoping.

Would love to hear your stories of anything similar or how you're getting along.

Is egg retrieval and hysteroscopy painful?

Also any advice would be grateful.

Thanks 😊

Hey, I was in a similar boat to you. Started ivf and meds and on second scan, they found a polyp (I did have one previously last year) and had the EC and then freeze all. EC is absolutely fine. I had the Hysteroscopy under local a couple of months later. Last year, I had it under GA. It was a bit painful under LA yes but personally, I found it much more manageable than a GA. I don’t love hospitals and with the local, I was in and out in about 30 minutes.

any questions, please feel free to ask

That's reassuring to hear. I think I would prefer LA then too as I hate hospitals.

How long after did you have embryo transfer? If you don't mind me asking, was it successful?

@FMRBEC Honestly, I would recommend it. The pain isn’t great but it’s manageable and about 10 minutes. I will find out on Tuesday if it was successful 😬😬

KG1244 · 02/07/2023 22:30

@FMRBEC it was about 2 months later. They wanted me to have 1 period in between.

Oh okay. Lots of waiting involved which I find quite difficult lol

Hi, I was with a private clinic, did embryo batching so lots of stim cycles to freeze all. Then had polyp removal, then embryo transferred the next cycle, consultant said sometimes a polyp removal can act like an endo scratch and help implantation. But it depends on the individual circumstances.

I didn't find either egg collection or polyp removal painful but i was sedated and recovery afterwards was just cramps and a bit of constipation (over sharing so you are prepared lol).

I hope all goes well.

I had polyp removal last year with general anaesthesia. Felt absolutely fine after, no nausea, barely any pain, just a tiny cramp after. Same with my first egg retrieval, had no recovery time and did not feel like I needed to take any pain meds, in fact I went home and was gardening for the rest of the day 😂. This month, however, I had my second egg retrieval and the recovery was painful. I had bad nausea, vomiting, and really bad cramps to the point of screaming and almost fainting. It got better the following day and now a week later I feel fully recovered. I think this second time I had more eggs, was very swollen before the collection, and the procedure lasted longer for that reason/more anaesthesia meds...

Basically, it all depends. However, I will always choose general anaesthesia as I cannot stand the sound of whatever they are doing down there haha. It would freak me out much more.

@SPR40 Oh okay that's good to hear. How did your embro transfer go?

@contentsmayb Thanks for that too. Oh dear, your second time sounds terrible! Glad to hear you've recovered now.

Thankfully my egg collection went well. I actually didn't feel anything and no pain after too. I was pretty surprised as was expecting it to be a lot worse. I was very drowsy though for a few days. I had another scan after and my polyps weren't visible anymore but I've got to go for another scan few days later to double check and be sure. I'm hoping it's just disappeared as the quote I was given for polyp removal was super expensive and NHS waiting times will be quite long. But let's see what happens on my next scan and we'll take it from there.

Hi, I had my polyp removal privately just for speed. They said I could do it via NHS but I said to just arrange it so I wouldn't have to wait....didn't ask how much lol. When the invoice come through big gulp...£2k! 😭 I know it wouldn't have made any difference if I'd have known before hand as I'd have still gone ahead rather than wait but wowza it was a shock!

All went well with transfer thanks for asking, currently 35 weeks pregnant ❤️

Wishing you all the best with your next steps and fingers crossed on the scan outcome 🤞✨️

FMRBEC · 19/07/2023 22:13

@SPR40 Oh no! It's all so costly isn't it but hopefully all worth it in the end. We've also been doing private just to speed things up.

Congratulations!! That's great news! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well too ❤️

I love hearing positive stories. Gives me hope.

Thank you! Xx
