Lifestyle changes for getting pregnant

We are planning to go for IVF after ttc for quite a long time.

Meanwhile, we would like to do some lifestyle changes so that it will help improve our chances naturally or via IVF.

Any lifestyle changes that would you recommend for improving fertility?
What food/diet would you suggest? I have ordered proceive for me and my partner ( but the cost is😯) I have started taking nuts, avocado, omega3 supplements and lots of water.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Many thanks :)

Stop all caffeine and alcohol. High strength vitamin D and folic acid. Mediterranean style diet, high in good fats. Minimise processed food and sugar as per usual lifestyle advice. If your weight isn't within good BMI limits work on getting it up/down, same for your partner. Be active daily including exercise as you are able to. Good luck 😀

I think supplements and eating a healthy diet are a good thing to do but mainly so you feel you're doing something. This is also what 3 different clinics told me.

For years I took all the supplements, drank none of the alcohol, no coffee, exercised and it didn't make any difference. We ate 'sperm meets egg salad' and both had acupuncture and other therapies. IVF eventually did work but after multiple rounds and tens of thousands of pounds. So make the changes to be healthier but don't beat yourself up about them or feel it will all go to pot because you had a takeaway.
IVF can be an intense experience, if a bit of chocolate ice cream helps you through the hormones it won't ruin your chances. Good luck.

I've just gotten pregnant after 1.5yrs of trying and 2 losses, after seeing a fertility dietitian for the last 6 months. Obviously hard to know if what she did is why I got pregnant, but I definitely think it helped!! I'd really recommend booking in with a fertility dietitian, even if it's just for a check in session. My dietitian is called josie and her instagram is @theprenataldietitian but there's heaps of other ones out there.
General advice she gave me was changing to a prenatal with folate (instead of folic acid), fish oil supplements, fish 3x week, limiting trans fats and eating a carb controlled diet with low gi carbs because I have pcos. What's best for you will vary obviously but yeah! Good luck xxx ❤❤

There is some evidence caffeine is worse than alcohol in terms of damage to egg/sperm quality. I would really try and stop if you can or switch to decaf. Otherwise just cut down as much as you can?

@Ttcmama1997 Thanks for the recommendation and wishes 🙂 Do we have to eat oily fish three times a week, or is it okay to have white fish like cod instead?

Thanks for the dietitian suggestion. I checked her page :) May I know how much it was for 6 months, please ? I could see that the initial consultation is $180. Was there a monthly cost too?

@SErunner Thanks xx

Hopefully I will be able to find some alternatives to coffee.

@biscbiscuitsndtea I think all fish is good, but you just want to be careful about not having too many of your higher mercury fish.
I paid $1500 for monthly sessions, an online course which was a new topic every 2 weeks - month, and I could text her/ voice message whenever I wanted too. I think you can do monthly payments too but it was a little more expensive so I just paid upfront for the 6 months

Apart from the diet and exercise, as previous posters have already mentioned, before/during our successful round we also removed as much plastic as possible from our kitchen, switched to 'clean' cosmetics, and made sure my partner my partner kept his testicles cool and ejaculated as frequently as possible.

But, as @LongerthanMrTicklesarms says, you can never really tell if any of it made a difference or it was just coincidence...

Very best of luck!!
