Hi
I’m trying to find out who can prescribe Letrozole in the uk. Can it be done by a Reproductive Endocrinologist? Looking for a monitored Letrozole cycle. I’m over 40 and the gynaecologist who runs a small fertility service doesn’t believe in medication/IVF over 40. I have been advised to look for another doctor but I’ve been let down by two gynaecologist seen privately who run small fertility clinics locally so looking for advice. The other wanted to push straight to ivf without any proper testing, ovulation stimulation wasn’t even mentioned and he missed my uterine abnormality and extreme fold. I don’t have time to waste….
Getting desperate for advice/recommendations.

I got mine from the assisted conception clinic. I’m a doctor in the UK, I’m not sure an endocrinologist could offer appropriate monitoring (whether that be bloods or ultrasound) but it’s definitely worth asking. If they can’t, they’ll be able to signpost you or refer you to someone who can. Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Where or what is the assisted conception clinic? Is that an NHS service or private?

Mine is through the NHS. I was referred by my endometriosis specialist, but I’m sure you can go private too.

Hi, I got Letrozole prescribed by the fertility doctor at hospital, there was a year wait as I had to get other tests done before I could be referred. E.g Hycosy, Sperm analysis, bloods etc. I suffer from PCOS and had a miscarriage in March. However, after I had done all the necessary tests, I had a follow up with the doctor who prescribed me Provera to start my period and then advised to follow with Letrozole. I'm yet to start Letrozole from tomorrow, so I don't know what to expect as it's my first time using this drug. I've used Clomid previously and have had two successful pregnancies but they've discontinued using that at my current hospital as they say it carries higher risks. Anyone been in similar situation? I suppose I just wanted to tell someone x

Oh I forgot to mention it was through Nhs at a London Hospital luckily had PPC so that covered the costs of the medications x

Hi , i am trying to get Letrozole as well withiut having to wait months which i dont have. Did you have any luck ?

@slinkystrudels Hey.. I think a lot of this depends on where you are, but if you’re prepared to go privately to avoid nhs waits you shouldn’t have to wait for months! We went to a clinic in Darlington and needed a scan for me, sperm analysis for my partner and that all being clear, a hycosy test for me before we got a prescription. There were no waiting lists for any of the tests (just a wait to get the right days of the cycle) and even though they recommended we just carry on trying for now were prepared to give us a prescription as it was ours decision.
