Please excuse my ranting but I'm just so tired of waiting for things to happen, I'm not sure my mental health can take it anymore.
Background : I'm 25 and my partner is 26. I'm having a new technique of IVF which involves pro nuclear transfer to avoid passing on a genetic condition I suffer with (Mitochondrial Disease). So we have a known donor (my friend) who is donating her good mitochondria from her eggs which will allow us to have a baby that is genetically mine and my partners (using my eggs and my partner's sperm) that will not have the genetic disease. The process needs at least 10 frozen eggs from me and 10 fresh eggs from my donor and will be a fresh embryo transfer 5 days after my donor's egg collection. https://www.hfea.gov.uk/treatments/embryo-testing-and-treatments-for-disease/mitochondrial-donation-treatment/
Timeline :
November 2021 : Initialial consultation/bloods. HFEA application started.
November 2022 : Our HFEA application was approved so we could start treatment.
January 2023 : Started short protocal stims, had egg collection which had to be cancelled half way through because I had a paradoxial effect from the sedation. They only managed to collect 4 eggs out of the 16 because it wasn't safe to continue. These 4 eggs were frozen. I was obviously devestated.
May 2023 : Started 2nd cycle of short protocal stims, had a successful egg collection under general anaesthetic. 17 eggs collected, 12 mature and frozen. So with these 12 and the previous 4 I now have 16 eggs frozen.
The next steps are for my donor to have egg collection and my embryo transfer following this. I've just been told that this won't happen until the new year 2024 because that's where I am on the waiting list. I understand there are people before me on the waiting list but considering I started this process in November 2021 I'm just wondering if it's normal to take 2 years from initial consultation/bloods to embryo transfer? To me I feel like things are moving super slow but thats because everyday in the TTC world is excruciating. Has anyone else had a similar timeline with their treatment?
