NHS funding with frozen embryos

Does anyone know if the NHS will fund a round of IVF if you already have a frozen embryo?

we have a frozen embryo from a privately funded round of IVF which we want to save for a second child if possible. Will the NHS reject funding if they know about the frozen embryo?

can you lie about it or is it best to share?

Do you have a child from your private round?
If you can afford private round and have frozen embryos then it’s not really fair on those that really can’t afford it and wait a long time. You need to check with your local ccg with rules. You might be lucky and be able to have a round on NHS. Is there any reason why you won’t use your frozen embryos?

You mention a second child. NHS does not fund IVF if any of the partners already have a child, together or separate. At least that was one condition for us to qualify. If you have a frozen embryo you don't need a whole cycle, just one transfer.

@pandapopk You’re best to speak to your CCG, be honest and ask if they will.
We had quite a bit of back and forth with ours over funding for a FET after our fresh transfer was unable to happen due to OHSS and they did end up funding 1 FET in place of a fresh transfer.
As far as I am aware the criteria is that both parents have no children, been trying for over 12 months, together for 2 years and live a healthy lifestyle. To me having an embryo on ice doesn’t constitute already having a child 🤷🏼‍♀️

Personally though… if you have an embryo frozen I would use that first, doing more ivf before implanting won’t help your chances of that embryo sticking and if it does lead to a live birth that gives you some time to save up for another round privately for a second child, and if it doesn’t work then I’d say there will then be no doubt you’d be able to be funded for nhs as you will not have any children.

Good luck whatever you choose to do.

CCGs don't exist anymore, it will be your local ICB that make these decisions.
