Anyone started IVF after miscarriage…

… and if so how quickly after miscarriage did you move to IVF?

I recently experienced my second ectopic pregnancy (third miscarriage), treated with surgery and tube removal. I was advised by the surgeon to move to IVF as my other tube (from the first ectopic, treated with methotrexate) is damaged. I asked the surgeon how quickly I could move to IVF and she said I could start trying 2 weeks after surgery/as soon as I felt well.

Physically I feel fine and want to move to IVF as soon as possible as it’s just been a rubbish year of heartbreak. Has anyone started IVF on the first period after miscarriage (eg first proper period after ovulation)? How was it? Physically too fast or alright? Were there any complications from moving to IVF on the first period?

many thanks in advance!

Hi OP and really sorry about what you’re going through 💐, 2 ectopics and another miscarriage sounds really tough.
I had 4 miscarriages, the last 2 were missed ones for which I opted for surgical
management. The last one was a D&C, I had to wait about 6.5 weeks for my next period to come, but was able to start straight away and found the egg collection cycle easier than I expected although we have different issues of course so I cannot say for sure how easy it’ll be for you.
Also, when I say I started right away with my next cycle, my clinic always wants to do a month’s prep before the actual IVF cycle on which they put you on either Norethisterone or Provera for 12 days to regulate your cycle and minimise the risk of cysts that can lead to cycle cancellation. So technically there was a month before the start of the actual EC cycle.
I also should point out I did’t plan for a fresh transfer, mine was just egg collection and freezing.
I had my frozen transfer 10 days ago and currently in the tww to see if it worked.
Have you already chosen a clinic?x

Thank you so much for replying to me! All really helpful information. I think if physically I am well enough I will go for it asap (if the clinic is happy of course) as mentally I think that is what is best.

so sorry to hear about your losses :( utterly heartbreaking and really hoping you have luck this round.

we are thinking ABC fertility - as my losses were caused by tubal damage, and I conceived 3 times quite quickly, I think I should be OK on their streamlined protocol (though obviously famous last words!). Where are you based and would you recommend?

@Superstorefan123 Hey, I'm currently in almost the exact same situation as you...it's been a living nightmare. I'm on my second ectopic, (third misscarriage), currently waiting and seeing but my levels are remaining static after 10days so I'm thinking they will try push me to do something soon. I will likely choose surgery as I can try again sooner, I'm 34 but 35 in a couple of months.

I've had an ectopic on each side now, so both tubes are damaged and I'm thinking to go down the IVF route. I'm also thinking ABC (oxford). I've had 4 pregnancies and conceived first time on 3 of them, while the other took 4 months.

How have things been going with you? Did you go with ABC, did you find them good? Have you had your first try yet? Was it successful?

Xxx

Hi @Ecas88 so sorry to hear about your troubles. I’m currently doing IVF with abc. I managed to get 6 embryos during my first round and currently now waiting to go to a frozen transfer (I couldn’t do a fresh transfer due to OHSS). Overall had a great experience and honestly all feels much less painful/stressful then trying naturally. Was given a good prognosis for pregnancy given i 1) could fall pregnant and 2) the damage was tubal (which has minimal effect on ivf).

Feel free to message me over any q’s!

I ended up going into shock last night at around 8pm, my partner took me straight to A&E and I had emergency surgery around 11pm. They told me it was rupturing and their was blood in my pelvis. They removed my tube as they said it wasn't worth saving and told me the other tube didn't look healthy either and I should have that one removed as well as the risk of ectopic is too high now and i won't be able to concieve naturally anymore so IVF is my only chance 😞 guess I'm glad I had the surgery as the anxiety is almost gone now and I wouldn't have known that my tubes were too far damaged to save. Just wish they removed the other tube last night, to save me going through surgery again. 😪

I hope it all goes well for you with the transfer xx sorry to hear about the OHSS, i know that's going to be a massive anxiety of mine :( I'll message you again later on, to see how things are going for you, once I've recovered for this all. I would appreciate hearing about your ivf experience in more detail xx
