TSH and IVF

Just wondering how others ivf has went with a higher level of TSH or if a higher level was picked up after transfer or how it has affected others transfers?

I am wondering if my TSH is the reason for not getting pregnant for years or if it is just something that doesn't help it eg not the sole reason?

Has anyone had it 'treated' and it's solved everything?

Hi @Fox01

My TSH was a bit over 5 when I started the investigations into infertility. With thyroxine, it went down to around 2... Consultant told me that TSH over 2.5-3 is not conducive to carrying a baby and I should definitely bring it down before thinking of fertility treatment. Didn't get pregnant naturally, but we were successful on our second round of IVF. Don't think it solved everything for us, but I would definitely recommend to bring it down, especially since it's an 'easy fix' and you just take a pill in the morning.

Best of luck xx

@beachbum85 thank you. My last one was 2 something but I had a private one and it went up to 5. I had an early mc with the first round otherwise 3 years of nothing. We are due to have the next one this may and if we postpone it for the bloods then we will be another 3 months. That's the last embryo too otherwise it would be onto round two of ivf. The nurse said that she isn't too worried about it and it shouldnt make it an issue but I can defer it if I wanted or I can just wait and go on the meds after this transfer since I will have to wait months for the next round of ivf anyway. It's just so difficult. I would be so annoyed if I waited, took the meds and then it didn't work. Just because it is taking so long for everything you. Did you get your meds upped during pregnancy? Did they make you wait at least 6 weeks on them also before transfer?

@Fox01 I totally understand... I found the waiting for treatment much worse than the treatment itself. We had also been trying years without a BFP to be seen.
I had been on the meds for several months before we got to the point of starting IVF, so they didn't delay us in any way, and I don't know if they would have made me wait. My dose was upped only in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy, when my bloods showed my TSH had gone up slightly again, and then reduced around 6 weeks postpartum - other than that I've always been on the same amount.

For me, it was the private consultant who recommended taking thyroxine right away - 5 is not super high but my consultant though it was too high for me. Is there anyone you can speak to where you got your last blood test? I know it must be a difficult decision because 3 months is long when you're waiting but you want things as best as they can be, especially with your last embryo.

@beachbum85 sorry I have only just seen this!

They are saying it would be a 6-8 week wait and then I would have to wait for my cycle to match up before I could continue so roughly 3 months of waiting. We have decided to do this transfer and I'll ask for for bloods if possible but otherwise we will have to wait a few months for the next ivf round so I will just take them then. My mum has been on the years and I've tried for many years for the Dr to give me but my blood tests have never been higher than 3 something with them but I don't know if that is because they take it at 9 and I'm up at 5/6am? It annoys me that I have tried and tried and then they go oh well you'll just have to wait.

Did your ivf work first time? I am convinced this next transfer won't work and it'll be ivf again probably 3-4 months down the line.
