Recurrent miscarriage and time off work

Hi everyone
im currently going through my 4th miscarriage in a row. No previous children so unsure if I will ever be able to have children. I just feel so emotionally drained with it all. I’ve had a week / 2 weeks off for two of my previous miscarriages and I worked through 1 of them. I’m only lightly bleeding atm but I know when the heavy bleeding starts I won’t want to work physically or mentally. I work from home so I have no excuse about having to go into work, I just know I won’t feel like working :( each one is getting harder to deal with. Do you think it’s ok for me to take another week / 2 weeks off when things get tough? Just wondering what other people have done in similar situations? I’ve already had around 4 weeks off (combined) for the two I did take time off for. Thanks

@Lottie2267 I’m really sorry to hear you’re miscarrying again. I would take some time off, how much I guess depends on how you are feeling at the time. Have you told your employer the reason for your time off?
Have you been referred to the recurring miscarriage clinic? You should push to get tested for some of the key things that cause miscarriages, ask for the tests for APS, if you’ve had 4 in a row it is likely you have something preventing the pregnancies continuing. APS is really easy to diagnose and treatable. If they won’t do it, the tests can be done privately at an infertility clinic, I paid just under £1k for mine, they were positive and I’m now 5w3d and on lots of blood thinners!

I'm sorry this is happening ❤️ I've had multiple miscarriages and always taken time off. Your absence is pregnancy related, so you won't hit your company's sickness triggers.

How far along are you? If you are able to have this baby tested, that might give you some answers (I've had 2 of mine tested - one I passed at home after medical management and the other was via surgery). Both of those babies stopped growing around 6 weeks and we got results. Both of those were healthy babies, so it indicated other issues were happening. You're eligible for nhs testing, so please do push for this, EPUs are not forthcoming with what they can do for you in terms of testing.

X

Thank you @NorthernDuckling ❤️

I have told them in the past but I haven’t said anything this time as of yet. They have been very supportive and told me not to rush back the two times I did take time off. No, my GP haven’t been great if I’m honest, I’m going to ring again tomorrow and try and push for something, they just don’t seem like they really want to help. Thank you, that’s really good to know, I have heard of it before but never been tested so I will try and push for that. Amazing to hear that you’re now pregnant, I hope you have a smooth pregnancy and all goes well 🥰

Thank you so much @VenusStarr ❤️

I am 6 weeks. I had no idea you could request testing. My epu have been really poor with each of my miscarriages unfortunately, it probably doesn’t help that 2 were during the height of covid but it’s been a really awful experience with them. I will definitely be calling tomorrow and push to be seen by someone if possible 🙏🏼

@Lottie2267 Hi currently on my 5th miscarriage baby stopped growing at 6 weeks found out at 11 week and I pushed to get mine tested this time as It the furthest I’ve ever gotten and need medical management to remove it so I know they will have something to test. Like you my doctor wasn’t much help at all and just shrugged off my last ones because one said it wasn’t viable as I was only 5 weeks and next said it’s common to miscarry after that I kind of gave up. This time I’m determined to get answers and luckily I got a doctor in the hospital to listen to me and she’s kept me in hospital to monitor everything I pass.

I would take all the time off you need to heal from this as I know exactly how you feel and it’s not a good place to be so take time off and treat yourself ♥️🤗 sending lots of love strength and hugs x

Ahhh, I’m so sorry to hear that @Unicorn2023 ❤️ Sending you lots of love!

really glad that they are going to do some tests for you this time and I hope you get some answers 🙏🏼 I think the unknown is the worst part of it all! Good for you for pushing to get the answers you deserve. Yes I will try and get some help tomorrow and I hope I have someone who wants to help. The cramping is getting quite intense now so I’m hoping I will pass it soon!

@Lottie2267 Thank you so much ♥️ Please try and catch anything you can for them to send away to test and be strong (I know it’s not easy I think my anger is my strength just now I’m broken inside but I can’t go through this again 😢💔) and demand they do something with it ♥️ Getting two lines on a test should be a happy time but for us waiting for it to go wrong shouldn’t be normal. I’m in the UK and if you contact EPU or your doctor and tell them you want information on how to get referred for recurrent miscarriages and have tissue to get tested they will help you 🤗♥️
