High FSH - worrying is making me ill

I'm 33. Never been pregnant. Tested Day 7 of cycle. (Not Day 3 if it makes much difference?)

LH is 7.8
Ranges
Follicular - 1.8 - 11.7
Peak - 7.6 - 89.0
Luteal - 0.6 - 14.0
Meno - 5.2 - 61.9

FSH is 12.6
Ranges
Follicular - 3.1 - 8.0
Peak 2.6 - 16.6
Luteal - 1.4 - 5.4
Meno - 26.8-133.4

I'm in a bit of a panic about the FSH level...

I also checked back on other blood test results. In 2012 (at the age of 21) I had a blood test on cycle day 5, which showed FSH was 11. I've never missed a period since, so wondering what this means.

FSH is measured on day 3, to have a real situation of your numbers. FSH fluctuate every month, each month can be higher as lower, nothing to be worried about unless there is a pattern. Usually when FSH is high or low is checked once a month on day 3 for 3 months to see its progress... if for 3 months FSH is high, could mean perimenopause but not always so do not freak out. First thing, take a new blood test on day 3 next cycle and check that, check that for other 2 months after that and see. Mine 2 months ago was 20ish (high), this month 12 (in range) both tested on day 3. 2 months ago on day 7 was 20ish then dropped at normal level on day 9 and that month I had an anovulatory cycle, that could be related to this, once again nothing to be worried about as 2 anovulatory cycles per year is considered normal.

Thank you for responding, its so worrying for me. :(
I have since started my period, so the test was done on day 7 of a 27 day cycle.

Looking at graphs online, it appears the only time 12.6 would have been in range would be in the Peak stage, but on day 7 presumably this is still follicular?

It depends on when you are going to ovulate, it's not always the same every cycle. So you should only rely on your day 3-5 fsh, during other days fsh goes up and down all the time.

A few months from this post and i'm still worrying.

My past two periods have been so light, this one is non existent practically. I haven't even needed to use a sanitary towel.

Panicking i'm going into perimenopause when I haven't had children yet.

Are you under the care of a clinic? Can you speak with a medical professional about your concerns?

I'm not, my GP doesn't have any concern and suggests the FSH is normal.

I haven't been tested again since, but these very very light periods are having me worried.

Meaning this gently, if your GP isn't worried, why are you stressing so much? If you are really concerned you could book in with a private fertility clinic for testing? Are you TTC?

Ironinglady22 · 03/08/2023 09:14

@NightSky20 have you had your prolactin checked? I had light periods and that was the cause for me. Also FSH fluctuates a lot and looks like you were a bit late in your cycle when you had the test, have you had your AMH tested?

NightSky20 · 03/08/2023 20:06

These results were taken on Day 7 of what ended up being a 27 day cycle.
Is that not still very early on in the cycle for the FSH to be so high?

I haven't had AMH checked yet as they won't do it at my Gp surgery.

It's not a reliable indicator that late, that's why you have to have it measured on day 3. An AMH test would be a better indicator of egg reserve (a private test costs around £100). But do ask your GP about your prolactin levels as well, this can cause light periods
