One or two embryo transfer?

Hi everyone 😊

We had our first ICSI cycle last year and my fresh transfer resulted in a biochemical pregnancy. The follow up frozen transfer I miscarried just after my first ultrasound at 6 weeks.

Finally after a 6 month wait we are almost at top of list to start treatment and it will hopefully be next month to start a new cycle.

I have been discussing with my partner if we should transfer one or two embryos. I am inclined to go with two even considering the risks involved. I have been researching it. With the emotional/mental strain of all of infertility I would take the risks (and although it sounds silly I would rather go through one miscarriage than two)

Initially I thought I wouldn’t be allowed to transfer two due to my age (28) however one of the nurses said of course we can make that decision and it is an option as it’s our 2nd cycle.

Just looking for some more opinions if I am crazy here! Of course there is also a risk only one implants or none 🤷‍♀️

No idea but bumping for you! I know someone who put in two embryos on their their third go. They miscarried one and the other one is now two. :)

My wife did fresh cycles if IVF twice and we put back 2 embryos both times. On our first round, one embryo took but she sadly miscarried. On our second round, we also put back 2 embryos (after being practically begged by both the consultant and the embryologist not to) and both took and we now have almost 9 year old twins.

Having twin babies was really tough compared to what I imagine a singleton to be like, and we almost lost them in labour (spent 2 weeks in the NICU) but we are very lucky to have 2 kids and glad we went against Drs advice by putting 2 back. I don't think I've ever seen relief like I did from the consultant when she did the 6 week scan and "only" saw 2 babies as she said the embryos had been such good quality, she had had sleepless nights that they would split and we'd end up with quadruplets! 🫣

@MrsBrightside84 tbansk for the reply! I have been looking up statistics and doesn’t seem doing double transfer increases the risk of miscarriage and some studies the risk is slightly lower when transferring two!

I know some people may think I’m crazy but both our embryos we have transferred have been high quality (5AA) and both resulting in miscarriages so quality doesn’t mean a baby!

we are lucky to be in a good situation with stable jobs and family close if 2 end up implanting. I would be happy with one though I just want to minimise extra transfers and miscarriages and getting too impatient waiting on treatment as well!
