Ivf nhs implantation failure

Hi
We have had two failed cycles on the NHS. First was a chemical pregnancy and second was complete failure.

We are now wondering what tests can be done to investigate what the underlying issue is. Our clinic have said that we can't mix and match , ie we can't use the nhs for our cycle but then pay for add ins. It's either NHS (and only using tests approved by the NHS / HFEA) or we go private. This is very frustrating as most of the tests that determine reason for failed implantation- such as NK cells - are not available on the nhs.

Does anyone know

  1. what tests are available on nhs for failed implantation
  2. is it normal to not be able to pay for add ons with an nhs cycle ?

Hello
So sorry to hear this. I am in a similar position that I have had x2 failed FETS (NHS funded at private clinic) I recently had the following NHS funded to investigate implantation failure- hysteroscopy and biopsy and full thrombophillia bloods to check for any clotting issues
Have you had a medical follow up to discuss your recent cycle? This was included as part of my last cycle and was really helpful to speak to a doctor and what investigations would be needed next and to stop me self diagnosing on Google!
hoping to start my next FET soon and will be completely self funded
I think nhs funding to Ivf/fertility investigations is different in different areas of the UK but I’d recommend asking for a medical follow up to your failed cycle and go from there
sending you lots of positive wishes

Hi,
Same here, 3 transfers down, 1 miscarriage and 2 failed implantations (1 double transfer with top grade embryos). I also questioned what additional tests were available such as NK cells. Like you, I was told only medically proven tests were available on the NHS and no add ons could be paid for. However, I was told I could pay privately and the doctors would take the results into account when prescribing meds for the next transfer. Apart from the standard tests I've just had additional blood work for co-agulation, lupus, anti cardio lipids, anti B12, factor V, pro-thrombin via NHS.
Good luck both x

Hi
that’s interesting. We were told today that they wouldn’t be able to take into consideration any private testing we chose to do. Apparently the only test left for us to do on the nhs is the karyotype test. I think we are going to do the final transfer and then if it fails probably do the generic / immunology testing privately , that they recommend. I’m sorry to hear about your journey so far. It’s really tough isn’t it. We are at CRGH in London at the moment , but may go to Spain if we have to start again. Where are you at ?

@RJP313 can I ask if your with UCLH? Just because I know they partner with CRGH? Just we are going to be going ahead with a round with them most likely (if this one fails) and I do worry about add ons and if they won’t let us do any additional testing

Hi AM08. We live in Cambridgeshire , and CRGH was a private clinic which was offered to us. So we were referred directly to them from our local hospital/gp. CRGH say you cannot mix and match, and they are very strict. So we either rely on nhs funding and only have the tests carried out which they consider ‘evidence backed’ or we go private and pay for the add ons, like Alice Emma era NK cells etc. we are on our final attempt with the nhs and then we will go private and do all the testing we can (if the last attempt fails). Good luck with your journey and let me know if there are any questions I can answer !

@RJP313 thats really insightful, I think I might go through the same thing soon as I believe UCLH work with CRGH and we have been hoping to get our embryos tested next time to save on heartache of not really knowing why rounds fail. All the best with your final NHS round and if it comes to it with the diagnostics!
