clomid or hcg for male infertilty?

We have MFI 5 years TTC with no pregnancies
After failed ICSI (good fertilisation rates but poor quality embryos) we decided to see a urologist before trying again.
DH has low testosterone, no cause found. Produces sperm but count, morphology, motility all low. Urologist said we could try clomid but the evidence isn't great.
My partner was referred to endocrinology by his GP due to the testosterone levels (which are low but not extremely low) who suggested HCG would be better than clomid but his urologist has said that HCG wouldn't be helpful and to would avoid this entirely and just to try clomid.
I wasn't at the appointment and my husband wasn't clear why.
Does anyone have any experience with either?

Hi op, what did you both decide in the end? My DH has just been prescribed clomid as well

Also interested over here. My DH has low T and low sperm count, but other parameters are fine or above average.

As a side note, for hormones, I'd take the advice of the endocrinologist as their speciality is hormones.

So sorry for the delayed reply, I couldn't get into my account! Now linked with another account.

Unfortunately 6 months of clomid made no difference to the sperm although DH testosterone blood test levels did improve. Tbh our endocrinologist doesn't deal with fertility much so was happy to try clomid after we mentioned the discussion with urologist, he did say his choice would be HCG but when we asked he didn't really explain why I got the impression it was just what they always did!

HcG is a growth hormone, and from what I understand, it plays a role in the development of sperm in the testes. Testosterone stimilutes sperm production, hence if the body isnt making enough of it or doesn't know how to use it, low sperm can result.
