Hi, I'm new to here so excuse me if I'm doing this wrong. I was hoping for some advice. I have just been referred for NHS IVF using an egg donor.

I received cancer treatment at 19 which has brought on premature menopause. Has anyone else had IVF on the NHS and can advise about the process?

Thanks!

@HopefullySoonParent just wanted to say I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. I can’t help much about egg donors but currently on my third transfer which was yesterday so in the TWW.
Feel free to ask any questions you wish :) x

Thank you @SH998

What kind of timescale have you been working on? How are you finding the process physically and mentally?

@HopefullySoonParent we have been trying to conceive for 6 years but only looked into NHS about 3 years, I had prolactin issues which added to the delay but probably started with the NHS IVF about January 2021, slightly delayed due to covid and waiting lists but started my first lot of treatment last May, once your approved it’s moves pretty quickly.
Physically, I’m finding it fine, the injections haven’t bothered me and I’ve been lucky enough to not have any side effects. However, the emotionally side has been tough, having to deal with constant waiting between scans, pregnancy tests, the ‘what’s ifs’ and disappointment throughout has been really difficult, it never gets any easier no matter what round your on. It will all be worth it in the end 😊
Hopefully you wouldn’t be waiting to long x

@SH998 thank you that's really helpful. I first spoke to the doctor about 3 weeks ago and (I think because of my age) it's really moved fast.

I have had 3 appointments. Blood test and ultrasound booked. My partner has provided his sample. Now we just wait for results. Did you have any therapy sessions prior to starting?

I really hope that you are successful soon. I'm sure it must be exhausting for you both.

@HopefullySoonParent I was told all NHS patients have to have a counselling session before treatment can proceed. We had a zoom call lasting approx half hour with ours. All was laid back so nothing to worry about x
