IUI timings nightmare!

I'm finding timings very confusing with my current round of IUI. If anyone has experience/ knowledge about IUI I would appreciate any thoughts/ advice.

This is mainly due to the fact that my clinic don't do IUI procedures on Sundays.

I'm almost at ovulation and not far from getting my surge. Clinic are saying that if I surge on Saturday morning (day 12), they will do the procedure Saturday afternoon.

If I surge on Sunday they'll do it on Monday.

But if I surge on Saturday night, they want to cancel the cycle.

It seems silly to cancel it as I still have to pay most of the cost anyway, and doesn't a surge only mean that you ovulate within the next 24-48 hours?

So in theory I could surge Saturday night and then ovulate on Monday morning - and surely then it's still worth doing the procedure?

If I surge Saturday night I'm thinking of just lying and saying I surged on Sunday, so that they will do the procedure on Monday anyway.

Is this a bad idea? Has anyone done this and had success?

Hey
Sorry I can't answer this but I'm in the exact same boat. I am doing natural IUI and relying on OPKs, no ultrasounds. My clinic has also stopped doing Sundays and it's in Denmark so I have the issue of timing getting out there.

This month I have used Clearblue digital OPKs and LH strips and natural cycles.

Clearblue peaked Monday night
LH strips peaked Tuesday (plus ovulation pain)
Natural Cycles suggests I ovulated Thursday

Who to follow???

So that suggests I have two days between a clearblue test and ovulating so you would think if I ovulated on a Saturday I could be inseminated on a Monday. But I guess you have to go with the clinic's rules?

I'm going to see what March is like then I head out in April for round 2. I'm wondering if it's better to go with a mix of these trackers and gut feeling rather than "within 24 hours of peaking". Don't suppose anyone has had success that way?

@ElRo28 Thanks for the reply - it's so hard isn't it!

In the end I was alright as I didn't get my surge on Saturday night. I had a trigger injection which I took Saturday night, and then had then had the procedure on Monday. The trigger is quite reassuring as then you know you have definitely ovulated. I think they got the timings spot on in the end for me so fingers crossed.

I can only imagine what it must be like also having to coordinate a trip to Denmark on top of this!

I would say that out of your methods of tracking your surge, the ClearBlue digital is probably the most reliable.

You really do just have to go with the clinic's rules, it's so stressful isn't it! Good luck for April x

So confusing! I wish there was a better way of checking the timing. Like an ultrasound on the day of insemination just to check. Maybe it doesn't work like that. That's good you got a trigger shot. Hope it took some of the stress out. I think I need to speak to my clinic about this. Really hope it works for you 🤞

Hi, my partner and I have done three rounds of IUI (2 natural and 1 medicated) and have had no success so far 😓

Aside from the important factor of having healthy sperm and eggs, something that I feel that does not get enough attention for each couple (because everyone's body is different) is figuring out when they actually ovulate.

Home test kits will detect your LH surge, and once this static smiley face is on display, ovulation will occur at some point in the next 48 hours... or in the next 12-36 hours... or in the next 12-40 hours.
Then on top of this you need to consider the viability of the egg's life, which is somewhere around 12-24 hours... or 12-48 hours... or 4-12 hours.
And finally, how long does thawed sperm survive? What is this window? 6-8 hours... or 24 hours... or longer. There's not a lot of information on this at all.

There are so many factors to consider when it comes to timing and so far I feel that 2 out of 3 of our attempts have been poorly timed. As a result, we have decided to invest some more time and effort into familiarising ourselves with how her body works, tracking things more closely and also asking for more scans to monitor follicle sizes so we can better predict ovulation.

If any of you have any more information to share since your last posts please do! Really hope you've had success ✨
